G'ovt doesn't react anywhere near that quickly. It was a result of the Firestone Tire fiasco and the lazy bums who were too lazy to check their tire pressures.

DO NOT RESET THE SYSTEM. Doing so will allow the truck to run a lower psi without warnings which will decrease MPGs and result in uneven wear. If the light just comes on, one of your tires are running a low PSI in which case you need to adjust them all to around 32 psi. If it blinks for a minute or two at startup, one of your sensors is broken and you need to take it in.

Not quite. The light tells you when the pressure is low. It will go out if you add air, but it won't tell you if the right pressure is in the tire. You need a good tire gauge for that.

The light goes on when the pressure drops below a set pressure in any tire. When you reset, that is the set pressure for each tire respectivly, even if they are not all the same. When the pressure gets back up it will go off. My system works great. Only goes off if I have a softy. I did not realize the spare has one too though. Good idea about flipping it.
Did the system not work as well in the earlier models?

I meant to reply to this awhile back---
The occasion when I had a passenger help, I could not find my tire gauge and there was not one at the gas station, and to top it all off-- raining cats and dogs just didn't do it justice!

I did check it later that day when I got home...

Mine always came on for no reason, and would go off after the tires warmed up. But, the other day it never went off, but I didn't pay any attention to it because it's on a lot of the time anyway. I come outside the next day with a completely flat rear left tire (had 11 lbs of air) Damn nail from Home Depot. . . Good thing new wheels and tires will be here in two weeks :D, and a $4 tire plug kit.

it WAS inspired by the seeming high number of firestones blowing out but it was clinton who signed off on this idea. yet another thing the government thinks it can do better than we can. what's interesting is to look up how the system works. there are at least a couple of different ways that car makers can do this and one of them is actually pretty clever. that being said, screw this damn tpms! i know my tires are at good pressure but my light is still on. the system should not be that sensitive to a little cold snap!
