In the same boat, feel like my choices are Toyo AT3 or Ultraterrain. Either would be in the SL, I wish we had more. Currently on duratracs but they are loud at this point.

If you're going SL why not go with the wildpeaks? Seems like far and away the most popular choice...

I ran 265/75 SL wildpeaks on my 2.7, and now I run them on my 3.5

They look great ! 44lbs and they look (almost) as aggressive as the 285 wildpeaks I had on an older truck. Honestly no complaints here and I got them for $730 installed.

I’ve had K02’s, ST Maxx’s, AT3’s and multiple sets of Toyo’s before. I personally see no reason to go with anything other than the wildpeaks from here on out, they’ve been the best performing for me and also the cheapest.

Yeah maybe that's the move after months of trying to find some hidden solution. In terms of tire construction, are the SL falkens going to be as durable as the C rated duratracs? They are essentially the same weight

not quite, the SL is a 4 ply and C load is 6 ply.

How hard do you off road? I’ve seen people that air down to 12-15 psi on SL tires over rocky areas and hold up fine.

I personally don’t need more than an SL now that I moved to FL. Might take a trip to Moab later in the year, I’ll let you know if I manage to pop them

Post a pic of a typical trail you do and I'll tell you if the SL Wildpeaks will suit, but I bet they will.

    Edit:

I mean, it's a ply-equivalent rating these days, no one is putting 10 plies in their E rated tires. Some tires will do better than others independent of load rating. C load duratracs are notorious for sidewall punctures and Wildpeaks are known for good sidewall protection even in SL.

Yeah I don't have a photo of a trail, but in Idaho, in the mountains, the trails are pretty rocky and I've shredded a few tires in the past. I've always had E rated tires on previous vehicles, never really even thought about it, so trying to understand the SL mentality. If the wildpeak SL is going to be better in these scenarios than a duratrac C rated tire, that is what I'll do. But for some reason I'm weary of putting a passenger tire on a vehicle I'll be taking into the back country. I wish there were more C rated options...because to me, that makes the most sense for my situation.

Here are some pics I have from the last year or so, I run SL Wildpeaks and have had 0 problems with the sidewall strength. If what you're usually on is similar you'll be fine.

has anyone heard of or know anything about the Goodyear Authority A/T? I have been looking into tires for what seems like a year now, specifically aggressive all terrain tires, and have never heard of this tire before seeing them on a 4runner in town. They look super good. Goodyear website says they make it in a 265/75/16 C rated version. After looking into it, they are a Walmart exclusive and the price per tire is drastically lower than the Duratracs.

could this be the grail i've been searching for for the past year?
