In clay and soft mud go with Duratracs if you want a C. I went ST Maxxs because I needed a stronger sidewall.

Thanks! I like that tire a lot and this may be aggressive enough. These are the best "in the wild" pics I have seen of the Falkens.

This is really all I have to contend with. I also want a tire than is good in the rain. I know that may sound dumb but I have had some tires that were downright scary in the rain...I like the Duratracs a lot but also like that Falken that was posted. The Duratrac may be a bit more aggressive but the Falken may be enough. Either way, I think I'm going to see both of them in person soon!

This tire is now on the short list thanks to all of the helpful posts. I hesitated about starting another thread on tires but this one is a bit different and so far everyone is delivering big time on the advice. Much appreciated!

Aggressive tires are not normally the best in the rain. I have run a lot of different MTs but that was years ago so I do not recall exactly how they did in the rain. I had Duratracs on my 2009 Prerunner for 30k and did not really have any problems in the rain. So far I would rate the ST Maxxs better in the rain than Duratracs or BFG ATs. I think Cooper could get a big share of the Tacoma market if they made the 26/75/16 in a load range C. I f have not had the STs in heavy mud yet but I anticipate them to perform between the Duratracs and the BFGs. The BFGs are just not a very good mud tire in my opinion. Back in the early 80s Ford put them on their 4x4s as OEM. Back then I was serious about mudding and I would find a buyer take those suckers off and put on some real mud tires.

I would love it if a ton of us would start emailing Cooper and asking for more options. They have a great product line but need more sizing options.

I just asked my tire rep, to contact cooper and ask them about that size becoming available. It would be a great option.

Anyone running the Toyo C/T? They don't offer much in 16's but a damn good looking AT in 17's.

Awesome! I am a huge Cooper fan and have enjoyed watching them expand their product lines over the years but they, along with many others, are missing out on a mostly ignored (yet needy) market.

I was sold on the Toyo AT2 in 265/70/16 , I went and saw them in person and they look pretty aggressive they look the same to me as the other sizes I didn't notice a difference. but now I really like the look of that falken a lot.

I started out liking my Duratrac's... That quickly ended the more miles I put on them. Constant balancing issues and they're getting louder the more miles I put on them. Traction is good, but my KO2's had better overall traction in wet and snow.

Go with the Falkens, I've had mine on for about 1200 miles and they are perfect, nice and quiet, good in the rain, and snow.

I like that Falken as well. I have read a few lists where people complain about them not wearing well but would welcome feedback on that.

I heard the same thing, but then I read where that was a complaint with an earlier tire/tread/compound.

I asked 2 dealers what they and their customers thought about the tire and it sounded good. One of them mentioned (unprovoked) that they used to wear too fast, and the rep promised that was the old design and now they are lasting a long time.
The other dealer runs them on his dodge 2500 and they have 20,000 miles on them. They are somewhat worn, but do not look to be more than 1/3 used up (not that I believe you'll get 60k).

I figured that for 3/4 the price of "good" tires, if I get 3/4 the miles it will be worth it.
My last set of BFG's barely made 45k.

If these go past 35k, they are well worth it to me.

One of the shop owners believes you can get 50k+ out of them if careful.

Back to the shop owners... they can say nothing but good stuff about them. The customers love them. There are many stories about "Billy Bob and Cleetus" and the "Smith boys" going up impossible obstacles and running in 2wd in the ice on these things.

I'd take it all with a grain of salt and just go check them out yourself. I'll bet you are impressed (if you have a feel for what you want out of a tire).
They feel like quality. The rubber seems just about right (not too soft, but not hard like plastic feeling 70,ooo mile tires either).
The sidewall feels like it can take a beating.
The side tread is nice for protection while aired down, but not too awfully "stylish" and terrible as if it were just for looks.
The tread and siping are deep and sturdy.
I'm only 300 miles into the set, but I've already had an emergency stop and dodge event... and it went well.

I had the cash in hand and was looking at the KO2's, ST MAXX's, a cool little toyo... and this was just as nice, just as confidence inspiring in feel and in tread design.... but for a whole lot less.

My opinion of them could change tomorrow or in 5 months when they are worn out... but I'm betting they are just fine.

Couple of my buddies run Treadrights (Treadwrights?) and love them. Another one worth looking into for the "affordable" but still a tire with good performance feedback.
