So I need a little insight, I’m putting a 3” front 2” rear leveling kit on my 2018 Tacoma TRD OFF ROAD, also putting a 1.5” wheel spacers on too, I’m keeping the stock wheels so what size tire do you guys think I can run without rubbing or trimming after those mods? Thanks you the input

What UCAs are you using? That lift will be too high for the stock ones.

I’m keeping everything stock. And how can you only run 265/75/16s? I’ve seen a handful of people especially on here that run the same leveling kit and set up and run 285/75/16s on stock rims. I don’t understand how your going higher you can’t fit a taller tire?

You won’t be able to align it properly on stock UCAs.

The tires will rub your cab mount in the rear wheel well if you go larger than 265/70/R17 or 265/75/R16. You can chop off the steel cab mount they rub on and weld in a new box over the end, know as the Cab Mount Chop (CMC). :sawzall::welder:

If you got adjustable UCAs like SPC Light Racing, you can adjust the the wheel further forward in the wheel well and avoid rubbing and fix your alignment issues, plus get more suspension travel. I’m running 255/75/R17 which are the same diameter as popular 275s, I don’t rub and have my Rokblokz mud flaps on. No need to hack the truck.

The width is what will be the issue not the height

Lift does not guarantee clearance of tires, you will need to trim and possibly a cab mount chop to run the 285

Ditch the spacers and you may have less rubbing issues.

I know I read somewhere that someone did a low range 3/1 leveling kit which is one of the best if going that route and ran some 285s. You will need some spacers to get the wheels out. The stock UCA should be okay. I got about 2 3/4 up front from some Bilstein 5100s on stock springs and my alignment is perfect and no issues what so ever in the allingment department. 265s would be a great tire on factory wheels and you won't need a spacer. Good luck and if your not out beating the shit out of your truck and just light off roading a spacer leveling kit is fine
I just wanted something like the 5100s which might give you a better ride and a little more capable off road experience.

You can try a 255/85 skinny tire if you want a 33" that should work ok. The problem is not height but width. When you turn your wheels they rub the cab mount.

Why do you want it level? It’s just going to drop up to an inch in the back with any moderate load.

So even with the SPC uca's you still found the 265's wide enough to rub the cab mount? Tis the reason that you're running 255's?

265/70/R17 did not rub with the stock UCA. I wanted a larger tire than 265/70/R17 (~31.5”) which is already 1” over stock in diameter. 255/75/R17 is ~32” and only weighs 1lb more. Rotational weight from heavy tires kills power and mpg, everything on my truck focuses on weight and performance. I also wanted to avoid rubbing issues with larger wider tires as I was not interested in chopping and welding the truck. So with 255s I get a larger tire with more ground clearance equivalent to popular 275s while only adding about 1lb per corner instead of 9lbs per corner with 275s and don't have rubbing issues while keeping my Rokblokz flaps on to not destroy the paint on the side of the truck. The 255s only reduces the amount the tires stick out by 5mm, which is more than compensated for with my TRD wheels that push the tire out further than stock. The 255s did rub initially, I had to adjust my SPC UCAs 2 spline rotations forward to move the tires forward enough to resolve the rubbing issues. No chopping or welding the truck and no rubbing. Win all the way around the way I look at it.

Cool, thanks for the info. Appreciate your response. I am looking to go the same route. Although I just realized you have a 2nd gen, I believe much of the same can be applied towards the 3rd gen. Was curious if the adjustment of the SPC uca's would allow for a 265/75/17 without the cmc. It seems not. I plan on installing the SPC uca's along with new rims & tires relatively soon. Perhaps I'll get around to a lift at later time when more fun tickets are readily available.

Who makes a 265/75/R17? I would expect you can run that size with the SPC without flaps no problem. I kept Rokblokz flaps on, which made it more challenging. When I removed my flaps my tires fit fine at 1 notch forward on the SPCs, but with the flaps on I had to go 2 notches forward on the SPCs to avoid contact issues.

You can probably get away with it. The SPC allow you to maximize wheel space.

No worries! 265/70/R17 fit fine without any need for chopping or adjusting from UCAs.

Yep, but I like the route you've taken with the taller tire. Thanks again.
