    I know a ton of people have asked what tire to get but I didnt find exactly what I wanted to know. I am looking for A/T tires that will do good on road being that I am 90% pavement 10% offroad. I dont want to spend a good amount on tires that will wear out super fast on the road. I also wanted to know what size to run? I have the rear tsb and I am adding 5100 set at 1.25 in the front next week. I dont want to rub, going on 17 rims. Thank you for the help as always! Jason

    Check out the Hankook A/Ts...They have a pretty aggressive tread pattern and there rated for 50k. I have em and I like em alot...I just wish they were 285s :eek:

    I've been happy with my Toyo's, I'm on my 2nd set and they've lasted 3 years now. Having said that, my next set of tires is going to be the Hankooks posted above, they look to have a bit better winter traction.

    +1 for the Hankooks. 50k mi and can get all 4 for under $600 mounted and balanced. Not a bad deal. They've been great for me so far on pavement, trails, mud, and rain after 3,000 miles.

    What model Tacoma do you have?
    Is your Taco level?
    Do you want it to be level?
    Are you going to put a lift in the rear?
    What kind of appearance are you seeking?
    What size tires do you want to run?
    Why do you want 17's? 17's will tend to give you a stiffer ride than the same height tire in 16's because there is less sidewall height in the 17's. (More sidewall height = more cushioning).
    Are you willing to run spacers?
    Why don't you have the 5100's set at 2.50? When I did this on my 08 Prerunner Off Road, it leveled the Taco out perfectly.

    Now before you go out and buy some tires because someone recommends them, you have to do your own research. An important thing to keep in mind is that your wheels and tires are rotating weight and will have a direct impact on engine performance. On my Taco, the stock weight of each tire/wheel combination is 60lbs. My original tires weigh in at 37lbs. If you want to go to 285/75R 16's which is probably the best size for our Tacos in terms of height and width and bad ass looks, then you will be looking at anywhere from 55 to 63 lbs per tire only. In other words you will be adding about 20 lbs of rotating weight on each corner. Also keep in mind that this weight is as far from the parts that they put stress on which is another thing to keep in mind.

    Another thing that people forget is that when choosing a tire size, you will never see the advertised height when it's installed on your vehicle. That is because the weight of the vehicle will compress the tire, thus reducing it's height by about 1". If you choose not to lift the rear of the truck or move the clips on the 5100's to 2.5", then I think you should stick with a tire that is about 32" in height. For each inch in increase over the stock tire size, your tire will rise in the wheels well by 1/2". The other 1/2" will be in vehicle lift.

    Next come the wheels. I hope you don't want to go to 17's cuz you want "bling" wheels. That would be tantamount to putting lipstick on a linebacker. It just wouldn't look right, and many would consider it gay. You want to find wheels with a maximum of 4.5" of backspacing, and 4" would be much better.

    My opinion would be to look at Mickey Thompson for both the wheels and tires. Made here in the USA, and giving back to a pioneer in the off roading community.

    Mud Tires are very noisy on the highway and expensive. I had Cooper Discoverer STTs on my '05... and while they look awesome on the truck, the road noise and terrible sand driving they gave meant never again, for me.

    Anyway, the guy is asking for all terrain/ highway tires... I gave him a couple I had (after the STTs) that worked very well, and were not pricey.

    1. These are not mud tires. The MTZ stands for maximum traction. Do your research!
    2. What is a higway? Can you post a picture of one?
