No scoop for me! I test drove both a Sport and a Off Road and the scoop bugged me, plus it’s fake! If the Gen 3 hoods weren’t so high it might not block the view but as it sits it’s just a wart.o_O

The scoop is bolted in so it sandwiches the top of the hood to the bracing. It's a lot stronger than the glue used on the non scoop hood. So in that way it's "functional".:)

I've never given the pro hood decals much consideration, but apparently they are there to stop the glare. I've never had any glare issues and live in a very sunny part of the US, so maybe they work?

Visibility is a not really significant if you actually measure the loss, it's more of a perception thing. I think it was something like 2" visibility loss in a virtual plane right in front of you that I worked it out to be. And obviously that's only the center part of what you're looking at. Obviously that 2" will depend on your seating position, for small people with long legs (or sitting far from the wheel) that would be a lot more.

Fuck that. It's just a decorative scoop for aesthetics only. I liken it to lifted trucks that never leave the mall.

Not a fan, too much going on with the scoop, too busy, too many conflicting angles.

Yes. That is point. My response was to the quoted poster talking about performance.

Whatever. Your truck. I vote scooped hood.

Yeah, only performance is to help hold hood together as someone mentioned. I like the look, but was just interested in opinions from my TW friends who have scooped hoods in case there were issues with sight lines, glare rattling noise etc that I should know about. I assumed the look would be more popular since they put the scoop on the pro. I appreciate the insight my friend :)

    (2nd gen, still relevant)

LIES! definitely took a solid second off my quarter mile times.

I've had both. Had a TRD sport before the TRD O/R I currently own. I missed it as soon as I left the lot, the hood was just too flat. Maybe I was just accustomed to it. I swapped it out for a scooped hood. In the end, it's all personal preference.

Ok, if we're talking performance, we all know that scoop is worth at least 30 HP, maybe 35 if you port match the canooter valve.

    Pros -
    30 HP
    Looks awesome
Good place to mount LED light bar
    Stiffer than scoopless hood

    Cons -
Slightly more difficult to judge front end
30 more seconds to wash the truck
glare when it's really bright out, depending on color of truck and stickers.

You need a third choice in that poll. I like both and one or the other wouldn't have changed my decision to buy or want to swap.

I voted skewp. Have had my truck over 3 years, glare has been an issue maybe 5 times. If you put on some sunglasses, AND have a skewp, your coolness factor goes through the roof.

Have you tried that big decal that is an option on the Pros, kinda
looks like a big tooth? I considered that and maybe painting the scoop
itself a matt black - that would definitely take care of it, I just haven't bothered yet.

Had the skewp on the '07...
I could take it or leave it...
I do not miss being blinded by the reflection or working around it when waxing.

Cite specific instances. Have NEVER heard of such. BTW....33 year history with Toyota's since before they were called Tacoma's, on #5 of my own, worked on hundreds, know of thousands of owners. Again, NEVER heard of what you speak.
