After the trade in value of my rig at 10 grand the evil stealership offered me 400/month payments for 48 months with a 16,000 buy out at the end of the 4 years on a 2010 DC Tundra with the TRD Package and the 5.7L v8. The wheels are turning my friends, what do ya'll think?

    $400 a month + 16,000 (buy out) + $10,000 trade in = $45,200. Sounds awful high to me.

The local Toyota dealership has an X-Cab Tundra with the 5.7 L for $26K

Don't negotiate by monthly payments, you can really screw yourself over.

Get a price from edmunds, and walk in there with that, ask if they can match it, if not walk out. Or use something like carsdirect.com as a price reference.

It is hard to decipher the real cost from your post, but let me see if this is right...

    400 a month for 48 = 19,200
buyout at end of 48 months = 16,000, is this a balloon payment or a lease buyout?
    trade in value = 10,000

Now what I dont know is if you owe anything on your 05, but it seems to me that this is one expensive tundra. If it is a lease and the 16,000 is optional at the end, meaning you can walk away, you would be putting basically 29,000 into a truck for 4 years that is not yours at the end.

Please correct me if I am looking at this wrong or misunderstood your post but wow, that seems real high.

$400x48 months = $19200 + $10000 (trade) + $16000 (buy out) = $45,200!!!! + taxes and fees. how do you figure "same dang value as tacoma????" i say keep the taco, stay out of payments. unless you really need a full size, or just have the money. tundras certainly are nice trucks but thats a mucho denaro. your taco is worth more than 10 grand anyway. shoot, i'll buy it for 10 grand.

Edmunds mkt value for a TRD Tundra (but I looked for the 4.6) double cab is 30k...

Most TRD tacos around here are going for 29. honestly if these deals were out when i bought my taco (and cash for clunkers existed for the tundra) i would be in a tundra...

With a trade of 10k and 0% APR for 60 month on the 2010 Tundra's, I'm sure you could get your payments right around 400 per month for 5 years and then after the 5 years you own it. And its 0% interest so you are only paying for the truck, not interest. 400x60=24000. 24000+10000=$34000. I'm sure you could get a nice Tundra for 34k.

Holly shit!!! Please figure out what they are you to sell you the Tundra, any vehicle for that matter, first. Ask them flat out, what lowest cost the the vehicle that your trying to buy. Don't let them screw you around w/ the payment game. Take care of the cost of the truck 1st and second is trade. These two and your interest rate will dictate what your payment is, not the other way around. Sounds to me like you're getting hosed.

Also, with that many miles on your Taco, do you really want to lease? IMHO, leasing is only for people who drive low miles, and/or want a brand new vehicle every couple years.

What I did, was shop around on the internet before I even stepped on the showroom floor. There's no pressure, everything's in writing, and you can compare with other dealerships very quickly.

    Hope this helps.

This makes a whole lot of sense...

As someone said, never negotiate by monthly payments. You should have a goal in your head and know before you walk into the dealer +- a couple of hundred how much you are gonna pay and under what terms.

I really wish dealerships (and I heard toyota was going to start doing this) would just give flat prices, you don't have to negotiate the price of a dishwasher or anything.. why cars?

Another piece of advice (they snuck this by me), don't let them add the toyota discount to your price, tell them you want that price AND the discount.
