Thank you Chris. I am well aware of the values and results of tire pressure changes.
    see below.

Sorry, I was busting your balls. I just forgot to use the sarcasm font. If we changed tire pressure here every time it rained...Well, it would be ridiculous.

I know right! I live in ID and we get shit tons of snow and it blows my mind how people just throw it in 4hi and think they are invincible... in winter all 4wd is really good for is taking off from a stop and driving through deep snow. It does very little if anything for you on an icy road once you are moving. When it comes to driving down an icy freeway, i would choose my front wheel drive little hyundai over my 4wd taco everytime. Pickups are just too light on their ass end.

And like what was stated earlier, I'm not usually worried about my driving, its the other drivers on the road.

And as far as that car coming up behind her, yes her choice obviously worked out ok and thats good, but i would choose slowing down everytime. I'd rather get rearended than roll anyday. Depending on the size of the vehicle behind me though;) haha. Plus if they rearend you they are at fault while if you roll, you are at fault. And odds are had she just chose to maintain speed rather than speed up getting rearended probably wouod have been out if the question, but enough armchair quarterbacking...

Glad you are ok Babytruck and that your taco is safe! I hate seeing pics of wrecked tacos...

back in december i had a guy roll his ranger right in front of me, we were both doing 75 on a solid sheet of ice, i know dumb... but my hyundai does well on ice, well... right up until i have to make evasive maneuvers... that was a scary ass ride... sure slowed me down though. He was fine, just a little sore between the seatbelt and airbag abuse.

Just to be clear, it certainly was my fault because I slowed down to 30mph because that other car slowed down. I thought they were going to go faster and I was waiting to merge BEHIND them. But when they slowed down at the same time I did, and this other car was coming up fast on the, I decided that I better get out of the way.

So I stepped on the gas (not flooring it) enough to clear the car that slowed down. As soon as my tire hit the pavement of the lane, that's when I started to slip. I think it was because there was a seam between the lane and the merge ramp AND it was a different type of pavement (the on ramp is darker) AND it was raining, AND I accelerated.

If I were to slow down even more, I'd have to stop because of the car doing that already slowed and because of the one behind it. The other traffic was going 65. I didn't want to be stopped or doing 30 with that type of speed in the vicinity.

I am serious. I had a FWD car before. I find the Taco in 4x2 doesn't handle as well on slippery surfaces. A Camry or Sienna would've been fine in babytruck's situation. Putting the truck in 4Hi restores some of the lost capability.

    Hmm

I'm not gonna bust your balls on this like I would most people , but seriously , I live in the rainforest , and NOBODY ever puts their trucks in 4WD on pavement due to rain , it's all about driving the conditions

If you require 4Hi when it's raining, you really need to be considering your reasoning for even being behind the wheel of a motor vehicle in the first place.

Or like OZ said...just don't do it.

Ive run in 4Hi in the rain before. Being as we go so long between rain storms, the first 30 mins of a rain is like ice.

If you'd have gotten the yellow Wrangler, you wouldn't have gotten
into that situation, they don't have enough power to slide the rear
    end unintentionally. :D

No, it helps when at speed too. Remember the back tires can't spin at a different rate if the front tires are engaged via 4WD. This is what most people forget. Second the torque to the back tires is halved because cause now you're sending half that power to the front. Again, this will lessen the chance of breaking those back tires loose. Additionally if for whatever reason your back tires do lose traction your front tires are still pulling you forwards. This helps to keep your ass in line while moving forwards in case the driver is a little slow taking their foot off the pedal when slipping occurs.

Best thing you can do is drive for conditions and have tires with plenty of tread on them to lessen if not eliminate hydroplaning.

You drive like a Woman me lord!

No, but in that situation being in 2WD, 6WD or 2918319581786719WD isn't going to help either.

However if your rears slip and your front still has traction, it'll continue to pull you forward. And if your rear loses traction it won't out spin your front cause it's locked via the diff.

However, I do believe I did say drive for the conditions.

But get the fuck out of the left lane cause I can drive faster for the conditions than you can you fucking White 90's Dodge minivan!

What tires do you currently have?

Cause for wet I highly recommend Michelin MTX. Fantastic wet traction bar none.

Edit - Hey! You deleted your post!
