Tonneau cover with RCI bed rack

Have you had a chance to try this yet?

 

I’m about to pull the trigger on this. Would you be able to take a picture of the inside of the bed around where the tensioner is? I assume that will at least be the same on the short bed as the long bed.

 

I was able to get this setup to work on my short bed yesterday. I just had to shift the rack back a little more to accommodate the brackets for the tonneau rail.

Wondering if this would work with the OEM tonneau cover. I really like this style rack.

 

Are you talking about the tri-fold OEM cover? The only issue I would see with that is trying to fold the cover and hitting the rack.

I just bought the Truxedo Pro X15 and am a little nervous to chop it up. Measure once cut twice right?

 

I'm combining the Mobtown Offroad Low-rise bars, Tepui Low-Pro3 Tent, and a Truxedo TruXsport cover as my build solution. My goal is/was to keep everything below the height of the cab.

I may try to fab some side plates for the bars to hold everything. The bars are only 7" tall, though, so mounting rotopax and maxtrax devices is going to require some creativity. All of my pieces should arrive by the end of May, so wish me luck!

I'll be combining my RCI aluminum rack with a Tonno Pro Lo Roll cover this weekend. Initially planned to mimic @GLOCKAMOLE 's solution but Autozone is having a sale so I got the Tonno Pro cover for $180 vs $300 on the Vanish. I've seen some old posts where the Tonno Pro works using the same rail cuts.

Will report back.

 

I was able to work on my tonneau cover after work yesterday and today. Once I knew how I was going to do it it went so much faster. Also the right tools help.

The flat part/bottom of the RCI rack stuck out over the bed rail on the inside to I had to cut out little tabs on the tonneau cover rails so they would fit tight against the bed side.

It's nice and I like that my stuff will stay dry and out of sight but I am not sure I would go this route if I were to do it again.

 

I'm mainly putting on this tonneau cover for out of sight during camping trips. $180 extra for peace of mind and my Yeti coolers/camping gear hidden away from prying eyes. Doesn't have to be perfect just functional. There will be WAAAAY more expensive items underneath.

Otherwise I keep an OEM trifold on there when the RCI rack is off.

Hopefully it turns out as nice as yours.

 

Good stuff man. I'm just starting to modify my hard tonneau cover (Retrax) to fit within myc ustom rack. It still needs some work, but I think in the end it'll be worth it!

 

So has anyone thought about a pivot point for either a rack or the bars above a tonneau? Typically it wouldnt matter but this way i could tow my pop up, use my tonneau for all my crap and then have either bars or rack above the cover. The pivot would allow full opening of a tri fold to get everything out if need be but then pivot right back down?

I only plan to use the bars for bikes or kayaks... Maybe a small rack.

 

Reviving an old post, but I’m curious, what bed side tool mounts are those that you have on your truck??

Used the same cover with my BAMF rack. Had to shift the rack a little further forward than I really wanted but I think it still looks great. Dont have a picture handy.

 

Just an update for anyone wondering. RCI's new bed rack appears to overhang into the bed a tad further. It made installation a little more tricky than OP's but it's still definitely doable, and functions.

 

I had a hard time getting the vanish to fit. I did a lot of cutting on the rails but still couldn’t get the set up to work perfectly. It’s a really tight fit for the rear of the cover to fit in between the rails. I can’t seem to find where the contact is that is causing full figment of the rails. Could any of y’all send pics of the places where the bed cover rails meet the rack please? Thank you.
