It was definitely a VERY tight fit, and not perfect. Same, though, we’ve got two feet of snow, happy to post as soon as it’s cleared enough.

Awesome, I appreciate it. My biggest problem is it’s too tight where the cover closes and the cover also isn’t as taught as before because the rails are closer together than before. I may just take it all apart again and get the angle grinder at it again. It was such a PIA though it’s painful to think about. Lol

I cut into the tonneau cover rails to allow for the additional "width" of the RCI bed rack supports. This allowed the rails to still be the normal/intended width. As far as too tight where it closes do you mean the cover is too taught and you cant get it to "lock" down?

Oh I cut the crap out of the rails. I went back and forth like 5 times because I cut a little at a time and still couldn’t clear. I mean tight as in the width of the cover at the rear barely fits within the rails, even with the trimming. I can’t seem to find where it’s getting hung up at. It fit perfectly before the rack.

I just finished this with my new rack. I cut about 1cm into the Velcro. Also helps that you install the bed rails first then drop the rci rack into it. When I did it the opposite way I had a super tight fit on both ends of tonneau to where I couldn’t really close it.

Thanks for the advice. What did you use to seal around the rack where the rail cut outs were? I used some weather seal but didn’t cut as much as it sounds like you did. I for the life of me didn’t see where the rails were getting hung up on the rack after I did my cutting. I will pull it all apart and cut some more and install the rack after the rails and see how that goes. Thanks a bunch.

It’s definitely not wide enough as you can see from the loss of paint where the end closes and also the cover is not taught, which causes water to pool.

I don’t plan on sealing it, more for keeping things out of sight then to keep things dry. If anything some silicone around the cuts and that should do pretty good. What helped was getting a 5.5 foot rack for my short bed Tacoma so I only have 4 cuts in the rails instead of 6.

I'll take some better pictures of mine after work. I also have the Truxedo LoPro tonneau cover instead of the varnish which may be a little narrower.

Here a couple shots of the cover/rail/rack. At the tail end of the rail I also cut off the vertical part to allow the rail to go closer to the bedside. That's what the last picture is of.IMG_20191203_082123.jpg IMG_20191203_082126.jpg

Thanks for the photos. I am going to take it all apart and try again. It works as it is but I want better than “just works”. Thanks again.

Sorry for the delay. You can see it lays flat, the edges only slightly come up around the rack, but there's no buckling of the cover itself. See the last picture to see how tight it really is, it's that far off, I have to push the rail upwards while I have the other side in to get it to lock into place, but it's perfectly functional. As a previous poster mentioned, it is worth noting I cut slightly into the velcro in some places, or at least the lip that holds the velcro. Hope you get yours working, it's definitely nice to have.

Thank you for the pictures. Yours looks similar to the amount of cutting that I did. I see that your rails are slipping downward causing the figment issue. I had this problem until I unscrewed everything and put a lot of pressure upward when retightening. I also gave it a few wacks with a mallet and I am able to latch it without too much trouble. It’s still a tight fit but it goes in. I’m surprised how flat yours is laying down compared to mine when mine latches easier. Perhaps I bent the rails in the process when trying to adjust. I may just live with it but I have a feeling my OCD will make me take it all apart when I can find the time.

Haha ya, I get that for sure. There was definitely an amount of 'letting go' I had to do, but seeing the end product and the cover appearing quite flat, I got over it. I think when the cover is actually latched in those rails don't angle down quite as much. Yesterday was the first time I unrolled it to mount my tent that I just finished, I was surprised that it unrolled/rolled back into place quite well (at an angle, of course, to work around the bed rack). I was also pleasantly surprised to see it still fitting taught after days of heavy snow sitting on the cover.

this has been my one hangup for getting a taller rack.. i have the KBvoodoo High rise bed bars right now, but they put the tent too low and I lose a LOT of rear visibility (backup camera helps a LOT.. I LOVE that with teh KB high rise bed bars I can keep my tyger rollup tonneau cover on, and keep my camping gear/totes out of the weather (for the most part), and keeps water, DUST and snow out of the bed. however the tyger roll up sits on top of the bed rails, and most of the tonneaus & racks out there sit in this same spot, unless I modify the tonneau cover to fit around the mounts/uprights on the rack this wont work for me.

I am wondering if my rack is a little skinnier than other because there is definitely space between the rack feet and truck bed. It is a massive PIA to try and roll the cover back, even at an angle.

That is strange, there's definitely a technique for it, and you have to angle it and keep it unrolled/pretty loose until you pass each upright on the rack. It was pretty quick for me to do, though, so it is possible yours is slightly different? I will say I only went about 3/4 of the way open, I have NOT tried to roll it up completely open yet, so I can't speak for that.

Just went to grab some Xmas trees and I knew I was gonna keep the cover rolled up for the day, took off the 2 support pipes and made all the difference rolling! So much easier and quick to put back when needed.
