So why bother to make a post about them and give them the attention and time of day? Some people are just assholes.

It's probably because most of us do not understand OCD. The following post probably describes best what most of us see:

Just so I'm clear..... You stated you're selling the truck, which implies that you will most likely be leaving the forum, one of your last posts to us is that we are a bunch of assholes because we won't tell you what brand of steps you have on your truck and we're posting " not funny " comments in your thread??? Now we're being threatened with warnings by the moderators for not shitting in this!

FYI, I'm over 40, am a member of many forums and know how to use the search function.

I'm 40+ and noticed a lot of young members on here too. For the most part, I've actually been impressed with their intelligence, wit, wrenching and life skills. These guys can stretch a dollar beyond belief in order to get their next mod and they go out of their way to help each other out. No doubt there are some members, young and old, that don't understand how to treat people or fail on their attempt at humor, but I'm actually feeling slightly more optimistic about the youth from what I've seen so far on Tacoma World.

    OP, I feel your pain.

"why are you asking this question, do you not know how to use the search tool!?"

^^ That's a post I get so tired of reading. I know I'm not the only one who spends 1-2 hours reading through hundreds of posts on several threads searching for an answer to my question, and not get a complete or sufficient answer. My current rule of thumb for saving precious hours of my life is if I don't find the answer to my question in 10 minutes by using the Search Tool, either TacomaWorld gets a new thread or I post the question in an existing and relevant thread. Trolls be damned.

I find my digital personality is very similar to my in-person personality. I type how I would talk, and I would never treat someone differently online than I would in person. That being said, I always read posts that come off snarky/douchey very closely. Inflections don't translate very well to a digital message, and what might sound like a personal attack could be a decent reply taken out of context.

I'm over 40 and could care less about some smart ass comments. They don't bother me one bit. In fact, I find them entertaining. This forum comes across as a bunch of friends getting together and discussing trucks. I try to help anyone on here but there is just a history here of the threads getting off topic and people having fun. Some can push it a little but usually realize when someone calls them out when they go too far. You have to take some of the comments with a grain of salt. You won't last long anywhere these days if you don't have some thick skin. Someone is always going to be a smartass everywhere you go. But that same smartass will be the one when you ask a certain question on here will give you more information than anyone else here. YMMV.

P.S. I'm not one to tell someone to use the search function. In the time I can do that I can point them to the thread they need.

Would it be wrong if I said the assholes (not all) on here offer just as much value to TW than the straight shooter doing everything possible so as not to offend anyone with his/her posts?

It really does take all types to keep this Forum going strong, without these different personalities folks would only be drawn to this forum simply for information. I want to say most are on here for both information and entertainment.

    Welcome to the internet.

Get used to it. No matter what forum you go to you'll get trolls.
