I should've mentioned in my earlier post in this thread that I did trim my OEM mud flaps down a bit (there's a thread in here somewhere about it).

I'm not a big fan of the cheesy-looking '4X4' on the rear flaps, I trimmed it off....

Co-worker just today got this exact ticket. Job site he was at was muddy due to rain last night. Pulled out onto the road where he flung rock and mud up on the cop's car behind him which prompted him to get pulled over. It's a fix it ticket but talk about bad luck/timing.

I took 6in off front and rear. much better looking and they don't scrape on speed bumps, plus I still keep the added protection from rock dings.

I took mine off and there were scratches all along where the lip met the fender flare. Plastic on plastic rubbing for 30k miles I guess. So I trimmed them and like that a lot better. Still practical and less noticeable.

As far as looks, protecting your own vehicle, off-roading, it's good.

    Legally? It's bad.

I don't have mud flaps on mine anymore either.

You can get the rally armor flaps for super cheap like 12 bucks for a pair for the generic plain poly ones that you have to drill yourself... takes like 30 minutes to an hour to drill up and install all 4 and for 24 bucks its hard to beat. Don't have to worry about them so much like oem if you want a little bit of protection.

On my truck without mud flaps and running 265/75 -16 Toyo open country mud terrains when in the rain I don't have to worry about tail gaters LOL!!

The amount of water thrown backwards behind my truck during a rainstorm is unbelievable!!!

I think your paint in some areas will eventually pay the price. It happened on my last tacoma. It was old So I didn't care. Not on my 2015 though, there staying on. They actually serve a purpose.

An attentive driver gets a phone call when about to pull off a muddy road in front of a cop.

You know. Gotta sit on the side of the road to make that call as the cop goes by... ;)

My truck took them all off. All on its own. Probably 350,000 km ago.

I really should get around to replacing them.

    Before my frame rusts out.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.

Looks better without them but I like that the keep the paint nicer and don't fling things on people behind me.
