That's exactly what I was about to say. I think they should consider their metallurgy for this product.

Unfortunately I just purchased these used, I’m doubtful they would warranty them. Fortunately, the seller has other shocks and is giving me another top hat.

I was looking at the design last night, I’m wondering why they originally designed the eyelet to pass through the shock tower, they really limited their space for a robust design. If you look at fox and kings their top hats look similar. I wonder if they did it to look different or to try and cut down on part numbers between vehicles.

Went through this as well. I see it as a failure between ICON and the tower design.

Yes ICON could change the design and problem solved. But if you want to help the icons last longer, put a spacer on top of the tower, makes it a bit more rigid. This is @HBMurphy idea been there for 6 years, hard wheeling, no issues

I no longer own the company. We made a number of designs. This was the simple one.

Those were cut on our water jet from 1/2" steel and machined to provide clearance. Shown upside down just so that you can see the clearance cut.

Some of the other designs... on next post.

Some of the other designs I made.

Some were stainless steel and some ended up being zinc plated and some powder coated.

    20230425_133007.jpg

THE REAL KEY failure in the design is that the point that gets the highest stress is the threaded portion (creating stress risers) opposite of the opening of the C of the top hat.

I tried to share with Icon at the time I did this work and they insisted that they redesigned the top hat and the failures won't happen again.

    I tried to help them.

Nice to hear it is still good for you. I guess my Aero Eng degree helped me! lol

Did I make them for you? I see the waterjet marks. :)

I'd love to see the Stainless Steel prototype like these that I sent to a guy on the East Coast.

Steel, Aluminum or Titanium - their design has a serious issue in my mind having a threaded section where the highest flexing area is. Over time those threads can create cracks.

No, this was prior to production, just an off the shelf spacer you suggested on a Mojave trip
