Heading out from Salida, CO to Moab this weekend to do some camping and mountain biking. I wanna hit TOTW while I'm there, but I don't wanna beat up my truck. I offroad the truck pretty regularly, and I've got a decent amount of experience.

I'm on a 6" fabtech lift on 305s, with a rear locker. I don't have sliders or bumpers, though, only transfer case and diff skids.

I'm pretty confident that I'll make it to the top, but how likely am I to incur some body damage without armor? From what I've read the trail has become more eroded and gnarly recently.

It can be a hard trail. I did it at night with @tetten and our goal was to hit the hardest lines possible. There may have been a couple bypasses but I'm sure I hit skids rocksliders and bumper at some points.

Our group from Alabama did it, one with no armor besides sliders and a front skid and he took no body damage. There are easy lines. Most of us took the more difficult path with no body damage, but the only forced "difficult" spot is closer to the top.

This was May 2017 when we went.

My opinion is you're more than fine.

It can be done without armor as long as your careful with your lines. As long as you have a hitch thats most likely what you will drag. Just be careful and have a spotter if your worried.

Having a good spotter can help. Ive only been to Moab once. Did TOTW, Rose Garden, Poison Spider,Golden Spike, and Gold Bar. Used the crap outta my sliders. Had to remove my 3/16 skids cause they were all bent for the drive home. But me and my buddy don't really spot each other much so maybe some damage could have been avoided. Gotta get some sliders dude!

You can likely do it without body damage, but without armor there is a small risk of crushing a rocker panel. Your ride height will mitigate that risk though, but you're still likely to drag your rear bumper if you descend any large ledges.

@JBTacoma and I are leaving out Thursday to head to Moab. We are booked for campsites Sunday and Monday night on White Rim. When we come off of white rim on Tuesday, we are going to TOTW. We were both there last year with @stronghammer. Your welcome to ride up with us, we just don’t have a time set other than Tuesday/Wednesday.

Damn. I would be in on that, but I'm just doing a quick weekend trip. Heading out there Friday after work and heading home Sunday afternoon. I appreciate the offer though. I may mountain bike White Rim a bit so I'll keep my eyes out for you guys.

From what I’ve read, they weren’t his buddies, and tried to tell him not to do it that way.

He wouldn’t listen, so they sat back and enjoyed the show.

Right on man. plans may have changed a bit, so I may be going to ride Durango instead. If I go to Moab I'll shoot you a PM though. I'd definitely feel better running the trail with another truck

You'll be fine. TOTW is not a difficult trail. Just go and enjoy yourself.

We just got back and the trail isn't much different than the year before. There is a place midway that has different options to get around it. We went far left for the challenge. Closer to the top, there is a "boulder" field that actually seemed to be easier this year than it was last year, maybe we just took a different line. Other than the midway obstacle where we took a challenging line, I didn't hit skids or sliders.
