Top Plate Spacers

    I'm currently running Bilstein 5100s on stock coils set at the highest setting (2.5"). I was going to get new coils (OME 881) + a 3/8" top plate spacer to get closer to a full 3 inches.

    However, I would rather not spend $220 right now on such a small amount of extra room in my wheel well (also to level my truck out some more).

    So, would a top plate spacer work on my current setup with the pre-loaded stock coils? I'm not too worried about ride stiffness because I like how it is now. Thanks

    A top plate spacer will get you to 3" but IMHO you should get new coils and let them do all the lifting to help preserve your suspension over the long run.

    That was my plan for awhile, but I've been convinced by my wallet and mother that it would be better to not spend almost $300 right now because I don't wanna run out of money. Also, after this school year is over, I won't have my truck for year (college) so that would be a good time to do some major saving and modding.

    In that case I'd say get the top plate spacer to net the 3" up front but don't do any serious wheeling with it. You'll cause irreversible damage to your suspension that will run you much more than $300 to fix. If you're getting exactly 2.5" now you only need a 1/4" top place spacer to net you the 1/2" of lift.

    Thanks. Do you have any knowledge about installing the spacers? Do I have to compress the coils or anything?

    I don't believe that you have to compress the coils again because the top hat can remain intact. The spacer sits on top of the coil. Like this:
