Wait, you got to 116? I've yet to top 110

Really though, this may end up :locked:

Any particular reason to exceed 116 in a midsize V6 truck? I mean, a supercharged X Runner revival would be neat and all. Or you could pick up an older Mustang GT or Camaro SS and go fast with that while having some stability and on a track...

I am sure the OP is using his truck on a track or out in the desert and would like to exceed the governor if possible.

116? I got to 120 in a 13' Altima (closed course of course) 116 isn't bad for a truck. I say be happy with it, you shouldn't really go that fast anyways. :locked:

I believe the only way to defeat the limit(er) is to rewrite or flash the ECU. Since our ECUs are encrypted, the short answer is.... No.

I'm sure there's programmers or "chips" that either are or will be available.

Most manufactures, when setting up electronic speed limiting, use tires that are only designed & rated for whatever the Vne is preset at... In other words the trucks top speed is probably set where it is because it's all your tires are designed to take.

I gotta ask, under what circumstances would having something higher be used?

ON EDIT: Nevermind that question I just remembered my avatar.

Curious, as to what tire OP plans on running at those speeds...

are you sure there is a limiter ? or just physics ? going 116 in these boats requires massive horsepower at or beyond the limit
    of the motor

There's definitely a limiter. When you go to that speed, there's plenty of momentum and a bit of horse to push it past 116.

To speed up the ECU, therefore increasing the top speed limiter, you need to replace Microsoft Windows with Linux on your Tacoma. Make sure you get the 64-bit version.

And quit asking "WHY". He want's to go fast, that's why. When you're out in the middle of nowhere, all by yourself with 2 or 3 lanes of smooth pavement, it's fun! I used to have a Nissan Quest minivan that wouldn't shift into overdrive until 105 MPH if you kept the pedal to the floor... (most people wouldn't know that. but I do!)

Someone who isn't me(swim), borrowed my truck and drove over to a part of Germany's unrestricted autobahn. Swim reported back to me that truck will do about exactly 100 in 3rd and hits the limiter in 4th.

I wonder if my ban hammer get out of jail free card is still valid?

I wanna hear about what reinforcement and suspension upgrades are planned to support Evel Knievel's quest to push 116mph.

This thing is going to be so fast it's going back to the future.

    Project Marty Mcfly.
