I bought the Hopkins trailer kit. Link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002Q7ZKK

I noticed that when I wired it I could only get the topper light to turn on but it would not flash when brakes are applied.

So I realized that the trailer kit, the brake light wiring isn't connected to the wire for the topper brake light.
Should I cut the wire to connect it to the actual light?

I bypassed the kit to the taillight and noticed that when I applied the brakes the light went dim. Is that normal?

This has been so annoying to get to work lol.

    Sounds like a bad ground.

So I have my ground behind the taillight. But I have this resistor that's uses the same screw as the ground point. I have led after market taillights, not sure if that is a issue or not? They light up brighter when I hit the brakes so I know that's not a issue right now. Should I have it only be by itself?

The current ground point i sanded down to the bare metal and put dielectric grease on it to prevent rust.

You asked if the Ground should be by it's self. It sounds like you have other items at the same grounding spot. You shouldn't need separate grounds.

Ah ok I thought maybe you were recommending I should have different grounding spots.

I even plugged it into the same spot as the taillight pins and still had the same light issue.c

Sounds like there is an issue with the item.
