Yeah! How dare they tell us what side of the road we have to drive on or that manufacturers can't make vehicles designed to spontaneously combust at 75,000 miles!

At this point is anybody actually getting anything out of this thread or is it mostly a get-the-last-word deal?

Wanting improved MPG and wanting car-like mpg are two completely different requests.
**YOU** keep insisting we're asking for car-like MPG. We're not. It's never once been stated that we'd like these to be more like cars. We do expect the economy to be diminished. Even though you don't seem to think so, I firmly believe MPG can be improved.

...or be looking at a deezul Colorado. Seems like the best of both worlds. Torque...and decent mpgs for a small truck. Torque is going to be around 360 ft/lbs...and at the very least 30 mpg hwy.

You can daily drive anything you want BTW. I used to DD a '76 F250 that got 8 mpg...on good day. Also had a couple early 70's Chevelles...10-12 mpg. Sold all of those to buy my first Toyota a '85 4Runner, which got low 20's...which was awesome comparatively...here we are 30 years later, and small truck fuel consumption hasn't really moved upward, unless you get a diesel.

So you can have both, yet Toyota refuses to bring diesels to the states...I can see not bitching about it if it didn't exist elsewhere in the World, but it does...

The Ram EcoDiesel had promise...if weren't for the dismal payload (1200#) and well...it is a Ram... ;) :D

Statements like this is where I know your school system had failed.
Weight influences MPGs by a lot, especially City driving MPG's Actually if you look at formula for calculating how much energy is required to move object from point a to point b there is a mass in it...

I get my 21 MPG thats why I dont complain about fuel efficiency of my Truck. My 21 MPGS are better than most fullsizes would get.
My 18 on my V8 is exactly inline of what I would expect from 6000 lb vehicle.
Hence I am not here whinning like little bitch about tucks not getting Prius mileage.

Yes, mass is involved in calculations involving moving anything but at speed aerodynamics exerts a greater force than mass does. Actually, if you want to get all technical, there is no single formula for what we are talking about. You have to factor in friction on the bearings from the weight, but the weight itself is actually has to do with change in inertia rather than a drag type force. If the inertia is not changing, like on the highway, then aerodynamics and friction on the bearings is all you have left.

Don't even try to insult my intelligence. You're basically the Tacomaworld jester at this point. It's like hearing an intelligence insult from a 2 year old.

Dude, during the winter I do operations all day long. If you are getting 18 mpg on a Tundra 5.7 L you need to give up whatever drugs you are taking.

MPG can be improved, but not by much. Slight tweak here, slight tweak there and you maybe just gave consumers and extra 2 mpg additional. I really can't see obtaining much more. Especially since the Tacoma tune is pig rich from the factory to compensate for shitty tuning. That is where a lot of the MPG is being affected as well. We haven't even touched that topic.

You can't argue with stupid. I'm out. Hopefully we get something from Toyota to actually talk about.
