He must have cranked the piss out of those when he out them on with his shiny new impact wrench--that likely overstressed/fractured each nut's tower; removing them was the coup de' grâce...

Horribly designed lug nuts BTW--with that necked down section between the tower to which torqued is applied and the seating segment of the nut. It's almost as though they were designed to break-away upon over-torquing....

Not necessary, just snug 'em up by hand then torque to the final value (in a "star",criss-cross pattern)

Just reviewing this post... it is actually “Pounds-feet”. Not Ft/lbs. I need to rotate tires, but am afraid of breaking studs. What is the conversion from Pounds-feet to Ft/lbs. My brother says to multiply Pounds-Feet by one but I keep getting the same number.

80 ft lb torque stick with 3-4 ugga duggas per lug. If you wanna be proper 90 ft lbs has never failed me.

So I accidentally put mine at 120lbs multiple times. Do I need to worry about the strength of the studs now? And should I continue to go to 120 since Iv already done it

    Hmmm.....

FWIW, the studs may be compromised with a continuous over-torque of 50%.

Suggest to consider replacing all the studs. I know..... a royal PITA. On the flip side, you could just run until one of the studs break. Then replacement will be imminent.

Back off the torque to 85 lb-ft or 85 ft-lb (no difference) and begin using a torque wrench on them lug nuts. Always tighten in a "star" pattern.

83 x 6 - 498 ft-lb total. Put it all on one or spread it evenly, your call.

Toyota tech told me 100 when I asked him. I read it was 83 or 85. He gave me a reason, but I forgot why.

I would have the Service Manager confirm that level of torque in print from the Maintenance Manual.

Its 83 ftlb. 85 ftlb will not cause problems. 100 ftlb is too much.

I have doubts if the Toyota Tech knows more than the people who designed the truck.
