    Yeah, I had a spare Muffler from a previous project and just chopped out the stocker and put it in. I have to agree with you on that one tho :cool:

    The rest of exhaust system is still stock so I definitely need to build a system from beginning to end, but I mind as well start with the mufflers.

    Towards the end of May '11, i picked up a few necessities. The DEI Titanium turbo wrap, for the turbine housing, and some header wrap. I also finsihed off the intake tube coming out of the turbo.

    Tried changing the filter with a plastic bend, as I was doing some experimenting with the PCV system.

    Ended up that the filter in these pics was so clogged up, that I thought something was wrong with the turbo kit. Even after I had cleaned it multiple times. The amount of time to break the boost threshold had extended. Worried me even. Took the filter off, during troubleshooting, and got all of the performance back.

    That filter was the one I had during the rear mount setup. Constantly stayed dirty. I was amazed at how strongly a dirty filter could impact a turbo setup.

    During all of that time, I was making payments on my ProEFI Pro 128 EMS.

    Paid on it for three months, up until that May. On the 27th, I finally received my tracking number. That was a very good day. Even better was the day of June 1, '11.

    Cause this came in.

    While waiting on the scheduled tune day, I finally got around to installing the Tomei Fuel Pressure regulator that my girfriend had gotten for me a while prior.

    Basically, I was getting all of my ducks in a row, so to speak. With the fueling system.

    I was also thinking heavily about upgrading my injectors from the RC Engineering brand, 550 ccm, to a 800 cc or larger. But, after just dropping some serious coin on the turbo install and ProEFI, my wallet was getting pretty irritated at me. I did end up making the best choice for injectors though. I didn't go cheap.

    To update on the "Test Pipe" which I mentioned earlier, here is the removable catalytic converter.

    It is a metal core 3" catalytic converter, from Vibrant Performance.

    And a pick of us setting up the timing between the ProEFI and the truck.

    BTW, the Pro128 is freaking huge!

    The following week, around July 5th, I dropped the truck off at PowerFab, to have the first '05+ Tacoma tuned with a ProEFI standalone unit. Ended up taking longer than we had all expected. 4 days more....

    Prior to the tuning, I did a quick little porting on the lower intake plenum. It seems that on the '05-'08 models, the left casting on the inside of the runners. On the '09+ however, the cleaned it up from the factory.

    Here are the pics to illustrate the porting that I did. Mine was just to get rid of all of the thick over hang left over from the casting process. I unfortunately do not have any before pics, but you can get the idea.

    Also, this first pic, is more focused on the spot that had to be grinded out, right behind the injector opening. Due to the "fat" nature of the RC Engineering injectors. They fit now, and do not have any vacuum leaks anymore. WOOT

    One week later, and we had our first set of numbers!!!!!! It was a truely rewarding feeling.

    The blue run, is the best dyno that I had, with this motor, and the modified rear mount, at 10 psi. Same turbo even.

    The red, is the front mount @ 8.7 psi.

    That is how much more efficient this setup is, vs that old one.

    Pay close attention to how smooth the power curves are with the front mount and ProEFI, versus the rear mount and X-1.

    Thank you brother S7ICK! One thing to make mention of, is the sheer difference in how the power came on. With the front mount, and going into WOT, it felt like i had a large naturally aspirated engine. Just constant linear pull. Very smooth and powerful.

    The rear mount always felt slow. Looking at the graph, you can see why. By 5500 rpms, I was making barely more whp than stock. Had a huge spike that would plaster you into your seat, but after that, it was all down hill.

    Interesting fact about that, is that the rear mount dyno graph of mine looks near identical to that of other members I had seen with the STS on the 1gr. I used to even think that it was strictly limited to the sts design. Then i saw a graph from a guy who had a custom rear mount kit from APR. It was a much smoother graph, and didn't taper off as quickly as mine, but it still followed a similar slope. The APR kit was much better designed as well.
