Hey Tor, You might have covered this somewhere already, but I'm only through page 44 of the build so far:rolleyes: Anyways, I have a leaky valve cover (only at high revs) after It came off to replace exhaust cam gears and I'm wondering if you could recommend a sealant or something to fix this? Anyways, crazy awesome build!! I can only imagine roller coaster ride its been but yet I wish I could do something like this some day. I'm not gonna lie, I've had my eye out for engine blocks lol. It'd be sweet to build one up for F/I.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
On the top of your valve assembly, you may have some half moon shaped humps that fit into your valve covers. You need to put RTV on the bottom two corners of the half moon shaped humps. Make sense?

    Ultra Black RTV works.

    A pic for reference:

Mine is flat all the way around. But I'll try some RTV.

I will bet that the point of leaking is near the front of the valve covers. The mating surfaces between the timing cover and heads, have two small dabs of silicone there from the factory. Two per each head.

So at that point where the timing cover meets the head, there will be a slightly uneven plane which can be a source of leaking. I will look for a picture.

Here you can see the seam that I am talking about.

Thanks. I know what you mean by the seam between the timing cover and the head, but its actually leaking at the back corner of the passenger side cover, outermost edge...as far as I can tell anyways. But I'll take a look in the timing cover area anyways. Also, it doesn't leak just driving around normally. As soon as I start to get on it(high rpms) that oil must be getting whipped around a lot more and starting to leak out. Since its only the passenger side, It'll be pretty easy to play around. I'll try a little RTV where its leaking, and if that doesn't work I'll try a new gasket.

Ok. Makes sense. I've had similar ones as well. If you weren't aware, 80 in-lbs is the spec for the valve cover bolts. Some people like to torque every thing so just throwing that out there.

Only times, have had a leak somewhere other than the front sections, I have just taken it back off and cleaned it thoroughly again. Or something was wrong with the gasket. Such as age or a knick. I don't know, but wouldn't think your engine has that many miles on it to have made your valve cover seal brittle yet, from so many heat cycles. But it is possible. Only you can really know though.

It has around 70k on it, and no the gasket sure didnt seem brittle. Maybe theres some grime underneath

Ha, figured out my issue: forgot to tighten the bolt in the middle of the center 3 bolts(between the plugs). It was completely loose. 20150509_194657.jpg
