So I've been getting the fuel tank trouble codes, usually pop up when the evap line is loose or the tank cap isn't on. I still need to drop the tank and recheck all the connections but everything that I could reach felt tight. It also only pops up like every other day. Usually when its cold, not in the heat of the day.

Wondering if maybe the pump retaining ring didnt get tightened enough and has a very slow slow leak, I almost snapped another strap wrench trying to tighten it and it was still about 1/2" away from the original mark

 

What codes did it throw? Mine does the same thing!

 

Vasoline on that large O-ring, helps. Those blasted vacuum/fuel line clips are such a pain in the ass. Especially if the coating bunches up.

But like Red asked, what is the code?

 

Well, of course I go start the truck up and it's not showing the codes now. I wanna say it was 0450 and one other one. When I looked it up everyone said their gas cap was loose or something. So i assumed it was pressure in the tank that was the issue. Could be an issue with the EVAP system as well, though.

Mine throws p0456. Mechanic friend and I Concluded it was the charcoal canister after doing a smoke test. Code only comes on every so often when I'm on stock ecu. With the Ucon it doesn't show.

 

It might be that. I've been smelling a hint of gas every so often when I get out of the truck so I just crawled under there and got another few turns on all the clamps and I twisted all the connections a little bit and made sure they were all seated and tight. Code hasn't popped in 2 days, so maybe its done being a dick

 

Ok so its raining, temps dropped a good 20 degrees or so since daytime, just hopped in the truck and codes P0441 and P0455. Cant google them at the moment, but wanted to update here and get them written down for future recall lol

 

P0441 Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow
P0455 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (gross leak)

 

So the evap hose may not have gotten put back on correctly? Damn I'll have to reseat it and see if that works

I remember having another code about the evap. I gotta see if it comes on again.

 

Well, it only happens every so often, so once I get the truck back I'll drop the tank again and make sure everything is nice and tight and reseat the retaining ring on the pump itself. My gut tells me that's the issue.

On that note, Can someone confirm that there is an O ring/gasket that goes on the retaining ring? I suddenly can't remember pulling one off or putting one on...it might have been on the ring itself and just didn't fall off. But I found some random schematic that showed one.

 

Did you NOT. Put a fuel tank retaining ring o ring back on the tank when you did the fuel pump Jeff?
