This is my oil cooler sandwich plate adapter. Never got the chance to install it when I had the spare engine in, but I have the parts to get it installed now. Once the built engine is back.

    IMAG1355_066295cda6b354afb356cc55aec24f92c0adfbc9.jpg

The two block off fittings come with the kit. The one which are threaded for sensors are extra. I should have bought them with the adapter plate, cause shipping for those two fittings by themselves was more than the dang fittings. :/

That is a Greddy adapter. You have to select the 3/4 x 16 UNF coupler. That is the piece to the right of the sandwich plate. The threads on our motor are that specific thread, so this coupler is both male and female 3/4 x 16 UNF.

I picked it up from www.240sxmotoring.com

Then one day I was checking my emails, and noticed an add from www.horsepowerfreaks.com. It was for 20% off all Brian Crower components. Figured what the heck. I am getting my engine sent out to be sleeved, so why not see about having a billet crank installed?

Sure enough, they honored that 20% discount on the crank, even though the one I asked for was a factory stroke at 95mm, versus what they have listed for the FJ. 103mm stroker crank. http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/partdetails/Brian_Crower/Engine/Crankshafts/Stroker/11168

Reason that I wanted the factory stroked crank, was that I wouldn't have to purchase new rods or pistons. I could just re-use the ones I had and save that cash. Well....Come last week, we found there was a problem....I will talk about that later though. ;) It was a good problem.

I will break it down for you sir.

Quoted from another conversation," Hydrolocked the original engine. Which has recently been returned to the my house. Lol.

First built, had a leaking issue which I assume aided in piston slap and scored cylinder walls. (2nd engine) < Was then used to create the MID sleeves from Darton, by the major help from Gadget.

3rd engine was built by LC Engineering. Did great. X-1 and rear mount turbo setup didn't like each other. Detonation caused steam errosion on cylinders 2 & 4. Fixed with JB Weld and made a front mount turbo, tuned with ProEFI Pro128. JB Weld gave out @ 14 psi. Sent engine in to get sleeved. Still there and in final stages of build.

Purchased used engine to get me by until #3 was finished. Was in terrible shape by previous owner. They didn't change the oil but maybe 1 or 2 times in 60K miles. Spun a rod bearing. Is on engine stand now. :/ #4 isn't my fault. [IMG] Lol."

It has now been set back a few more weeks, due to the "problem" that I briefly spoke of in the last post.
So approximately 3 more weeks added to a time frame I a not positive about. Lol.

But since you asked, I received an email from Jim @ Darton. He was apologizing for not taking clear enough notes, that I had ordered a stroker crank. And that it came to his attention when the started installing the rotating assembly. They notice that the ring land of the piston was just sticking above the deck of the block.

I absolutely love the colour. I can see how it would be easy to get carried away with it though. Thank you though.

That is when I got back in contact with him, to let him know that wasn't supposed to be the case, and that his notes were correct.

After doing some calling around, to Brain Crower and Horsepower Freaks, everthing was worked out. Very well I might at. That being said, I really have to thank the guys at Brian Crower for their up most desire to help correct the problem and find a viable solution.

Due to how long it would take to make a new crank, that was completely out of the option. What worked better was a new set of pistons. They put in a rush order with CP Pistons, for a new set. Basically same as mine, except for made to fit the stroker crank. Mine were already CP to begin with. I offered to pay half for the new set, since they cost $1200, and they cut that price I offered in half. So I said yup, let's do it.

I didn't plan on having a 4.3L 1GR, when I started this phase of building the engine, but I won't shy away from it now. Woot!

I was told, that from the experiences of the UAE guys who have installed the stroker cranks, that they have picked up an average of 100 hp. I don't know if that is N/A or boosted, but either way, I have a nice increase in power to look forward too. :D

***EDIT*** At the time of Darton installing the rotating assembly, they already had the main caps' girdle complete, and ARP main studs installed.
Basically at this point, it is install the new pistons, and balance the rotating assembly. Not too much longer....

Factory crank contributes to 95mm stroke, for the 1GR. Factory bore is 94mm.

The increased stroke crank (stroker), from Brain Crower, is 103 mm.

They call it the FJ crank because there are no Tacomas in the UAE, and lots of people that build their 1GR's, are doing so in their FJ's. The stroker crank was the only crank that people ordered or sold.

For those that have installed a fiberglass hood, (VIS carbon fiber/fiberglass in my case), they tend to vibrate at speed on either side of the hood latch.

    The solution:

    IMAG0011_c33195f4219b58c694fbf6d44134010416ef8539.jpg

Not sure if there is a write-up for these or not, but I did one because I couldn't find one on XRU.

    http://www.xr-underground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=47784

instant change. I feel 100% comfortable about my hood staying secured down as it should now.

Man, I'm actually quite impressed by the new Scion. I told you I bought a 2013 tC RS 8.0 right? Holds together really well in the corners and high speeds. Could definitely use some better sound proofing but thats more just cause the entire roof/rear hatch/winshield/ & sides are all glass.

Damn! That is 333cc boost in size! Kind of surprising that 8 mm (not even a 1/3 of an inch) will do that for you. Guess it helps a lot that the diameter of each cylinder is almost the same as the height though.

What compression ration are the pistons going to run at? Still the same as before (can't remember is if was like 9.5:1 or 9.7:1) Any goals for how much boost you want to/can run on the motor?:D

I'm really excited to see what your motor can do!! Probably not as much as you though. haha

Yes sir. My friend has an '08. Love that little car of his. Yours is more powerful though.

We dropped his with Eibach struts and TEIN springs. Added a TRD front strut bar, and damn that thing sticks. Sexy as sh!t too. He likes the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta Tires. I agree, and will have the next set of tire on my truck, in that brand.

Add a turbo kit to yours.

Yeah. I am really excited to see what the N/A dyno shows as far as power output. My stock stroke pistons are 9.2:1. Same as the compression in the TRD Xrunner. These, I decided to go down to 9:1. Fully coated, just the same as the stock stroke pistons.

Not sure on the boost that I plan to run at this point. I mainly depends on how well everything runs, and how much power this 4.3L makes over what it would have as a 4.0. Once I get the twin disk clutch in, I will aim for 7-800. However much boost it takes to get there, I am not sure??? The upgrade in turbo size from my 6265 to the 6466 BB should really help in that department as well.

Honestly, I try to refrain from getting excited. It gets me ansy...once the engine is in my hands though, I know it will be very exciting!

Haha well Mines the 2nd Gen of tC's, '11+. Stock 180 HP, my RS 8 comes with a whopping 183 due to its TRD performance exhaust. More importantly, same trd suspension thats in the Xr's is in the RS 8 version. so I hear ya about that corner sticking. It's awesome.

Runing Blizzacks on car & truck right now for winter but the car came with summerperformance tires out of factory. I'll have to check what brand.

Keeping it N/A till I actually get my company started (whole reason I'm currently downsizing). But I did buy a new header & an NST crank pulley :D. And I'll be switching to synth oil & premium fuel + better plugs after the 8k break in period.

    I didn't know the X-runners ran a lower compression (We run 10:1 don't we?)

I don't know too much about turbos but what rpm do you think it will take to get that bigger turbo to full spool/boost (I imagine this varies based on the peak psi it is going for at the time)? or to even start to produce boost for that matter?

8K break-in? Wow. That is a lot. Not to bad for someone who never drives fast though. ;)

Only the TRD Xrunner had 9.2:1 compression. That truck also had forged internals. Not sure why they had a crank made for it though, unless to just to say that they did....

I have a feeling that this slightly larger turbo will spool up faster. Primarily (now) due to the larger displacement, but also because it is ceramic ball bearing. Compared to the journal bearing one that I currently have.

I do plan on going a step larger on the turbine A/R from a .68 to a .82. Normally that would slow do the spool time just a tad. With the previously listed improvements, I still think all together it will spool a tad sooner.

Was the TRD X-runner just something a shop came up with or did Toyota actually offer these at dealerships?
