    Just a thought... if the mounting points for this setup match up with the OEM ones for a 4Runner or FJ there might even be the option of a BBK upgrade later on... More brakes == More better!

    Technically it isn't, as it is a bolt-on kit. However, I have read of some people needing it and others not. Variances in how their trucks are setup I guess. So for me, ot will be determined after install. I have already looked at the proportioning valves available from AP Racing and Wilwood.

    Which kits in particular?

    For me, I didn't feel like spending it all up front, and that is why I bought just the adpater kit.

    Either way the pricing still comes out about the same. It could be had a little cheaper if a frugal shopper purchased salvage calipers, blank rotors, and cheaper pads.

    If there is a rear BBK for the FJ, and they use the same as the 4Runner, then yes it could be had. Such as a twin piston rear caliper. Those calipers, say the ST20 from StopTech, would thus weigh less than the OEM counterpart, as it would be from aluminum instead of iron. It would also have higher quality components in the caliper. Suited to the buyer's choice.

    That's more or less what I was thinking, except... 4 piston. Can't do 6 piston up front and only 2 in the rear. :)

    Bw s256 turbo with 3 in glass pack dumped pre axle raptor liner bed and top rails and fenderflares and rocker panels. Hunter side steps. Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
    if it is even possible, would it be more or less cost effective/feasible to swap a 4runner axel since they have discs. I know you would have to either weld some brackets for leaf springs to attach or figure out how to make the coils work on a Tacoma, but at least the axel itself would be pretty inexpensive if you went to a pull-a-part or something

    I see, will be interesting to see what your conclusion is when deciding the need for proportioning valve. Personally I'll liked to see disc out back instead of drums. But drums have been proven, and they work.

    Yeah pricing for the adapter was reasonable. Although we're on rear disc subject, I was kinda taken back on the price of the front disc setups they have. 1k-2k, I believe it was....but then again for the off-road folks adding armor, bigger wheel/tire combos, power adders such a supercharger/turbo, it would be wise to upgrade the braking system.

    Be almost easier to swap the axle and link/suspension components if already doing any welding. However, it is a slightly different sized axle than the Tacoma's.

    Just trying to effectively stop big, heavy tires while towing at speed :) Or you know... carving down mountain roads at speed.

    It would have been nice just to be an option from the factory....

    I ordered my 6 piston kit from them, some years ago. Rotora 6 piston BBK. Was ~$2500. Now they have the StopTech ST60 BBK. They make the adapter for the Tacoma. If i could have purchased that kist instead of the Rotora one, I would have. Easier to upgrade and repair, large pad aftermarket, and just a better product.

    Started that change by swapping to StopTech rotors, adapted to Rotora hats. They last MUCH longer. Also I have not had one issue of expansion slots getting out of round like they did on the Rotora rotors. Just better material for the rotors. At $750 for a pair of rotors, they had better be a quality product. Again, just the rotors and not the hats.

    The same dimension rotors from Rotora are also within $100 more than the StopTech rotors.

    Good info. to know when it's time for me to upgrade brakes. Apparently these kits will work with 2015's as well! :thumbsup:

    Interesting, I didn't know there were issues with the Rotoras... I was a bit envious because they made larger BBK options than the StopTechs... IIRC they had also made a monstrous 8 pot BBK even. So what size are you running now? 355mm?

    With my lift and 35's alone, I had encountered brake fade before. Took some persuasion, but it still did it. You are right about the added weight being a cosideration for upgraded brakes. Expo builds, LT caged and added equipment builds, etc....

    Mine might have been a rare case. Since I purchased mine, the company has made some improvements at their factor, so I heard. Only needed that to happen once though.

    Mine are 355mm x 32mm. Part number for reference, on the circumference of the rotor.

    Everyone want to go faster, carry more weight, have larger tires, or any combination of those. Brakes always come as an after thought.

    Ah, I had only seen one other member (skygear) go with the Rotoras and he did a 380mm 6 Pot. I wonder if he's having any issues. The 355mms are really nice, but like you said, it's still possible to fade them, which is why I was secretly hoping to eventually find some of these Rotoras, but now you have me a little concerned about being able to source parts for them in the future.

    Let me clarify. I only faded my stock brakes, with the lift and tires. I have never faded my BBK. Race track or other.
