i know this is a little late, but i had the FT86 speedfactory UEL header with Perrin exhaust and to me it sounded awesome.

 

The desert is a good way to find weak links.

It's always a bummer when a shop gives you the run around and ends up costing you more money in the long run. Unfortunately Shops that truly know what they are doing are a dying breed and the knowledge from the old timers isn't being passed on through apprenticeships like they used to be.

 

You know what, I blame myself. I thought I was saving a couple bucks using a local small business rather than order from ECGS. I've been fucked over by local business a couple times already and usually just go with what's best, but everyone always say "SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS" so I try, and pay the price. Had a local small gun seller over charge me on a rifle by about $80, but I chalked it up to local business. He then ordered a rifle for me that I merely expressed interest in but stipulated I was buying a house and wouldn't be buying another gun soon. He then hounded me for about 6 months about buying it and then contacted my Father in Law (they were semi friends) when I told him I hadn't responded immediately. I was pretty pissed.

Anyways, pity party over, got it together today and drove in to work. Zero sounds so far, will be doing a 1k mile break in and changing oil every 500. If this one breaks as well Ill be creating a Yelp for him and leaving a horrid review on the whole subject.

 

And before anyone jumps in and says that's the passive aggressiven pussy way out, I've already tried to talk with him about warranty issues and he shafted me as well as stated zero warranty at all. I even brought up "what if I have an issue during break in and never go off-road with it" and he insisted no warranty. ECGS will get my business at this point.

@VolcomTacoma you're makin me nervous about my re-gear next week. Having a local shop do mine too..

 

As long as it sets up well, you're fine. When I picked up the first diff he was complaining about it not setting up well and warned me it would be loud. It was...and then after break in it basically broke lol. I'm probably in the 1% that have an issue with a regear this quickly.

 

Wait a minute.... so the shop knew it wasn't setup right by still sent it out anyway? Sounds like you need a new shop.

 

He said it was my fault for using crappy Nitro gears. Mmmhmmm. Should have walked then and not paid him.

 

I would have asked him to show me why they won't setup right. And people wonder why I don't trust any shops, ever.

 

Yeah I learned an expensive lesson. It's what I get for trying to use 'local small business' again. As much as I want to support local business, this is liek the third time I've been burned. Should have just gone with ECGS in the first place. They'll be receiving my chunked diff in a bit and will let me know what was set up incorrectly. You live and you learn.

 

Their fault for not using the proper equipment/parts/methods to setup the gears properly.

 

Yup. The skills for specialty things like this are not being passed down anymore, and it's hard to find a shop that can do the work. I'm dreading when it comes time to rebuild the focus transmission.

You'd think they would check the actual parts before install to make sure they are in spec and don't have issues....

 

At least report that they are having issues, and come up with a plan with the owner, to overcome said issues.

 

So much this^ I don't care if you realize after I authorize the work that your in over your head or the parts I brought you have issues, just let me know before you go further so we can figure something out. Don't be like that one tire shop that took a chunk out of my rally tire because their machine couldn't handle it.

Exactly. I go to pick up the diff and he goes "I don't like how it set up, only like 2/3 of it set up fine, the other 1/3 didn't want to balance properly, so it's going to be a loud diff" I asked him about 5 times of it was going to grenade. He insisted no. When I started having the decell sound I went back, he insisted multiple times it wouldn't grenade. Flash forward maybe 1-2k miles since I had an issue, diff grenaded. F that guy. I don't even want to go back to show him he was wrong. Live and learn, move on to a better company.
