Ohlins coil overs, XRunner leaf springs, Calvert Racing traction bar kit( as it comes with modified XRunner axle mounting plates), and Calvert Racing weldable axle perches. To make the rear a SUA conversion.

 

Thanks for the info! The front control arms allow alignment to be in specs that much lower with Coilover’s? I only knew of the SOS kit and didn’t care whatsoever for the rear design! May I ask what size rubber are you running?
I may have kept our Pre-runner if I knew there was a better way to lower a 6 lug and install a manual transmission.

 

Oh yeah. Forgot that I also have the SPC upper control arms.

Possibly on the alignment. Never had it aligned since their install. Did a quick driveway alignment and it has been good since.

I was not fond of their kit either. Thus this direction. Their kit induced more wheel hop. Mine, alleviated it.

These tires are currently 295/45 R20. The tire size that my speed-o is calibrated to is 275/40 R20. Maybe 45. I'd have to look.

 

God blessed me today on the way home. Made it close enough for a friend to come pick me up, and no negative instances.

TOB failed on some level today. Pedal stuck to the floor, fluid dripping out of the bell housing. Right before taking the photo, it was a steady stream.





New parts already on order.

 

Years ago during my rear disk conversion, I was in a pinch, and didn't have the right brake lines to do the job right. I'd have to look back through this thread, to see when I time stamped that. Regardless, it worked, was good enough, but an eye-sore and incomplete none the least. Finally got around to completing that job. Partially motivated by the fact that some of the necessary fittings for the upcoming TOB replacement were being used back there.

Looks much better. Looks properly professional.

 

Playing around to see if I can salvage this oil pan. Just waiting for the upcoming weekend to get to work on the TOB.
The casting is quite dirty.

 

Oh my. What put that hole in there? If nothing else, it'll make for some good practice.

When it had that small diesel turbo on, and was spooling too easily without a tune nor properly sized injectors. It also happens to be the oil pan that was used for your concept.

That truck above had a lot of areas that needed some love, but man it was fun!

I have to state how dirty that casting is. Obviously the environment has a lot to do with that as well. Sheesh though. I had to lay a small bead around the perimeter for adhesion, then I could up the filler size.

 

The weekend came to drop the transmission and fix this failed TOB. I was quite surprised to find this.



Keep in mind that this is a GM TOB on my T56 swapped Tacoma. The day that the failure happened, I ordered a Holley equivalent.

The Aisin bellhousing has an inspection cover at the very bottom. Is it also a source for water and clutch dust, as well as any other debris, to exit the transmission. This casting had no such ports or openings. So I did this.






I used a step bit, then swapped to a reamer. Basically a 7/8" set of holes.

Next up was implementing a thread repair kit for all of the bellhousing to trans holes. The casting had already stripped in two holes. The casting is quite porous. These were needed to keep that integrity.

 

For the past few years, since I don't drive my truck much, I figured that the transmission was just failing internally. Seems that after the first test drive, that it was all in the TOB. Which is quite the relief. Woot!

 

That was pretty nasty.

I did a clutch swap in March and (for comparison) this is what my old TOB looked like.

 

Much nicer than mine. Luckily my mechanic friend said that it wasn't an anomaly.

I had also noticed the last two recent times that I bled the TOB, that there was a lot of what looked like clutch dust in the fluid. Which is where have my hypothesis from, about needing the holes.

 

In LS engines this is a common problem. The clutch fluid must be drained and replaced regularly. If you wait too long, the clutch pedal sucks to the floor and stays there.

This is a common procedure called "Ranger Protocall" to help elevate this problem.

This is a long read, but basically it is a procedure to drain the clutch fluid without getting under the car.

In our trucks it is pretty easy to drain the clutch fluid. Getting under a Corvette is a little harder. I have done the Ranger Protocall a few times with good results.
