A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
Since it appears you are one of the gurus of the "power build", maybe you can lend some advice.

I've got a 2011 DCLB, which I am slowly building up as an expedition-capable truck while still retaining it as my DD. I wanted to do a build similar to yours on my old 95 Taco, even had an extra motor on a stand ready for tear-down, but ended up married with a baby before I could get into it. I needed a bigger truck so I bought my 2011.

Now, for the good stuff. Knowing a can't have too much down time on the truck (pretty much weekends are what I'm looking at for mod time), what mods would you recommend (budget friendly) to slowly develop some better bolt-on power? I'm thinking I can work my way back down the exhaust starting with headers, as soon as the OEM stuff needs replacement/repair. What else would you recommend?

    Super RAD!!!

Carefull though. RAD might not think its so RAD. :p

This is the perfect graph to get an idea-storm off of. That being posted, Intake or exhaust first. Depending on your weather and off-roading conditions, will determine which intake you get. The enclosed box style will have similar gains to the URD intake, except that it is more protected from the elements. That and a set of headers, or Y-pipe would be a good next start. The catback on the '11 is 2.5" already, so unless you want a 3", just replace the muffler to one of your liking. If you get the Y-pipe, you won't need an O2 sim. You will if you get long tubes. They are also cheaper than the short tubes, in the end.

Thanks for the response. I'm a big fan of URD, and can't wait to get my hands on some of their stuff.

And you are right, the gears in my head are turning although you have confirmed some of my assumptions.

Torspd, I just found your build after being part way through my own build on a 1gr hilux. Great write up. I wish I would have found it earlier, it would have saved me some time. It has helped me for the rest of my build with turbo oil and water hose locations etc.

I’m at the point where is have to install/modify the engine management now and was wondering what your specific reasons for getting rid of the X-1 and going with the ProEFI? I know the X-1 has been fitted previously to Aussie 1gr’s so I was going to head down that track.

    Good morning all!

Yes, as there are no mounting points on it. Ron Davis Radiators does sell a OEM replacement that will bolt up. I needed something more. There will have to be some re-routing of the lower hose, and whatever is needed to make that happen. Then of course the T-stat/relay harness for the fans.

You're welcome sir. If you have more questions, as away.

Glad I was able to help with that stuff at least mate. Do you have an X-1 in hand? Or are you trying to figure out which ecu would be best for you still?

Just throwing this out there, but you are from the locale where Haltech is made. They make very good EMS'. X-1 is obsolete, so there is no more support for really. What options are you thinking about, and I will be able to further answer your question.

Put in some wrench time this weekend. Had all of the puzzle pieces to install the Ohlins.

    The uninstall.

    20130525_152408_zps991ca48b_8f4dd4d0539e1ba9ca17946c566f83486d57f9aa.jpg

This is where it gets graphic.

This is after almost 4 years of useage. Three+ with what worked for the bottom mount. This particular picture is after my most recent bushing/sleeve update, but it was already quite damaged from what came with the QA1 kit. As nothing was a precise fit with the OEM LCA bolt.

    20130616_170411_zps69a6c6a7_fc931937fee7a311333f5a2a193db2a8fe20516f.jpg

This is what it looked like before and after I changed the bottom bushing setup.

    20130407_014957_zpsf1bbc149_66e4e073ebbf0bb90846305f0697df2f7e2499d0.jpg

And here it is with the recent sleeve that perfectly fit the lower bolt. Not an easy part to find, nor cheap!

    20130411_161525_zps185e9906_7f33f9cd2813222584f5678d702d02ea460675cf.jpg

The damage was already done to the shock though, but this still worked well for its short stint.

Cleaned the 2.5" springs and swapped them over.

The I.D. of the "14mm" bearings on the Ohlins, was actually 14.8mm. I am glad I test fit the new OEM bolts prior to installation. Otherwise there would have been to much play between the bearing and the bolt. The best solution was to pick up some Grade 8 9/16" bolts. Since they are 14.5625mm. I may still go back and try a 5/8" bolt still, just because it will be a slightly tighter tolerance.

Anyway, the 9/16" bolts fit the LCA perfectly. Only had to drill the top mount, since it was 1/2" originally.

I cannot wait to test these out on the track, race truck style. Woot!
Still have plenty of adjusting to do on them though......

Compression, on the bottom of the shock, has 40 clicks! Rebound has another 20...... phew...
