how are you upgrading your axels? you know there are off the shelf solutions for that right? marlin trail gear and nitro gear all sell cromo rear shafts

 

Oh ok. I wasn't sure if it was an Auto FU thing, or the manufacturer. I imagine that it was. Which makes me really curious to see how mine will help me at the road course.

Even if they do fit, what is the benefit that you are thinking of?

 

Maybe he's thinking you'll have enough power to twist/break the factory axles chromoly is a lot stronger for sure. Pretty much the gold standard in axle strength.

 

Are the FJ axles Chromoly?

 

Oh. I doubt OEMs are. I thought he was implying that Marlin and/or Nitro carry chromo FJ shafts and that our rear ends are very similar if not identical so you could run them even though they told you they don't have 05+ Taco axles on the phone.

 

the non elocker axles are all the same. 8.4", 12 bolt ring, shafts. The hino I swapped into my 05 5lug was out of an 07 6lug. Which I am 95% sure is the same axle in the FJ's

As of right now, I am planning to send an axle out to Moser to have them make a pair. Said about $375 for them.

Makes me curious is the FJ axles fit now.

And 3rd members are swappable on a variety as well. It is quite likely that if someone makes them for the FJ, that they would bolt up. I should call Toyota.

 

Exactly, good luck. I tried callin a couple parts guys lookin for info such as bolt type for the ring gear and hit a brick wall. let me see if I can find that website where dude listed all the toyota axles

I will credit 05tacorunner AKA jason with this find. But either way it was spot on.

 

Now there are some differences between the fj thirds in that the ring gear is a 10 bolt and on the tacomas it is a 12 bolt ring gear not sure if the flanges are the same as far as bolting into the housing but I dont see why the axels would be different
