Shopping around for a pre-built truck is tough!

Most of what you find has been pummeled by its previous owners(s). A good deal isn't a good deal when everything needs to be replaced or serviced if you know what I mean.

Now looking at just building my own build for a dessert truck. At least I know it will be done right.

I see Total Chaos +3.5 is clearly the most popular choice by far here browsing all the builds.

How do the two Solo Motorsports LT kits stack up against the Total Chaos LT kit?

What are the pros / cons of each kit? Any real-world users chime in?

@dirt addiction, he has a Solo motorsports kit on his. These two kits are both good, but I think the TC kit is an entry level kit compared to something like the motorsports kit. TC is pretty popular as they have been in the LT scene for a good while and their kit is bolt on without the need for further accessories to work, although it is encouraged to reinforce any LT truck setup. The solo kit is built around the idea that you can do some serious stuff with it, with that being said, I think some up front fabrication/reinforcement might be needed to get the full use out of that kit. I have the TC kit on mine as Im just getting in the LT scene and am not sure if I want to be full blown race style. DTF is another company that makes some serious LT race kits. The TC kit is limited to 13 inches of travel while solo is probably 16+ inches for the front alone.

I guess the real question is, what are your ambitions with your truck? If you are looking at casual high speed offroad/jumping then the TC kit could be the way to go. If you want to be at the next level/race set up then solo or DTF is where I would look. I would also consider looking into a linked rear end if you want to go the racer route which the solo or DTF will be better at accommodating set up wise.

They are comparable. TC runs a little higher because they have a stronger brand, their kit also comes with lower uniballs out of the box while Solo offers them as an upgrade. The Solo XLT kit (not their standard kit) is straight balls and offers 18" of 4wd wheel travel. It's like $8-10,000 all said and done and is the highest performing bolt on kit you can find.

For a second gen wanting a 3.5" LT kit out of those 2 I'd recommend TC. If you're going HAM I'd get the XLT. Dirt Designs offers a very legitimate 3.5" kit which uses dual vertical uniballs which is the strongest joint configuration. I personally think that kit is the best 3.5" for a second gen.

He has a second gen, it's all uniball on the Solo kit. You can't even compare the two kits really - TC is a 3.5 that uses stock spindles and stock CV's etc, the Solo kit is a 4.5 over kit that uses boxed spindles and better axles etc.

Does solo have a link to their regular kit? Would be curious to see what their standard version is. I personally would consider getting a kit that has boxed spindles over the stock ones. LSK also makes a kit as well.

The standard kit is right there on their website. It's basically the TC kit minus the lower uniballs. They have boxed upper and spindle options as well as a lower uniball and heim steering upgrade.

Sorry to piggy back --- but what about Baja Kits? They are running a boxed upper and price-wise, they are comparable to the TC as well.

I don't see very many people running their kits though.

I personally would love to see some guys run their stuff. I keep trying to convince my buddy to step up to their LT kit.

    I'm considering it too

Debating between Baja, Dirt King, and Total Chaos. All 3 are at the same price point for the + 2 and extended Axles. I like the boxed uppers of the Baja and Dirt King.

It would take me forever to park that thing in the garage with it being that close! Who makes the glass for the fenders?

lol only had to park it on that side of the garge for a few days till i got the rest of the garage cleaned to fit the new bass boat in.. but it was sketchy parkin on that side.. had less then a inch per side of wiggle room (that garage door is 95" wide to lol) the fenders are from @tacomonazul.. they were fiberwerx 6" that were cut up, widened and re molded to fit the DTF kit
