Ok, it's not a big deal, nothing to see, move along, move along.
No end of the world unless the Nooks try something really stupid.

Here is an example off of my front garage, yes this is mine, been to 6 totals and a bunch of annulars which what this one is. No truck pictures, I hadn't bought it yet.
I have a really expensive hobby.

Any specific lens filters you recommend for a DSLR (I have a basic Nikon D3300 w/ a 35mm prime, telephoto, and the kit lens it came with)?

you need a solar filter or you will most likely damage your sensor. Lots of tutorials on YouTube if you are interested.

Mine is a 500mm telephoto with a basic solar lens on it. This late in the game I would say it's impossible to get but maybe.
Nikon 70 (I know it's older than the hills but it works) 70-300 Nikon and a tamron 2x teleconverter. I tried other cameras but they don't focus as well. I have a Nikon 300s for regular shooting.
I took pictures last year in Indonesia buy hand, worked well too. On a deck of a ship. thousand oaks filter.
I've used the same setup for 5 years. I know people (astronomers) that spend upwards of 100k on their equipment.
    Same results, takes practice.

I was in San Diego and I think we were like 80% of totality. It was neat how it got dark like near sundown and the air cooled!

Quick Question...would a welder's mask or goggles be sufficient for viewing the Eclipse without screwing up your eyes?

I have heard "rumors" that a certain number of darkness on welder glass that can be used for this, ie 14 or higher. I would recommend
that you use a set of the glasses from sky and telescope for this but it's too late to get them. There are a lot of phony's on
    internet now.

As I was quoted before, only #14 welding lenses are sufficient for solar viewing. Please don't use any number lower!

Yup! Madras has a population of 6,500 and they expect 150,000 there to view a shadow for a few minutes. Gonna be a huge mess with only one two lane highway going through town! I'm In Tigard and I'm staying home to avoid all the loony toones!

Unfortunately I'm just really tired of it and have no intentions of watching. Will be working anyway. Many are looking forward to it and that's great. Hope they enjoy it.
