I got a pretty good rock chip on my mirror yesterday. My truck is silver sky metallic I think it’s called. What’s the best match touch up paint pen?

    Oh look, another mod....

I don't know if this is the best, but it's the one that I used to touch up a few rock chips on my Taco. After a few weeks, I couldn't spot where they were originally.

Yeah pretty much what this guy said. You can get the touch up pens from the dealer and just need to know the paint code. According to that Amazon link it's 1D6.

I think when I looked into it I was looking into third party options at first until I realized that I could just pick up the exact paint matches at the dealer for like $11 (a year or two ago). You'll probably also want a clear coat pen to put over the paint too.

I never got around to putting the clear coat pen on and didn't make a big effort in blending it in. But my main concern was rust too.

Don’t use the brush that comes with it, it lays down way too much paint. In the old days I used the end of a paper match cut and an angle. Now I used a fine tip hobby brush.

Many people seek the advice from others on this forum and mostly they got decent opinions and they are appreciated. This type of response is bullshit and degrades the integrity of forums. You sir, are an asshole! Own it.

use the Toyota one if you just want to paint it over to prevent rust
but do invest in one of those tools others have posted above, you can buy the color matching Toyota touch up pen and twist it open and access the liquid paint instead of using the ball point pen.

I would go with the one from the dealer. Always seems to be the best match IMO.

fluid writer. $10 on Amazon. I find it only works on horizontal surfaces like the hood. I could never get it to flow properly on vertical surfaces since it uses gravity and the weight of the paint in the little cylinder to get the paint to flow. It’s worth it for the price though

I bought paint touch up at dealership. Suggest you trim bristles down to smaller batch or buy really small brush as you don’t need much paint. You may be able to buff out smaller marks.

Pshh I've worked in many body shops. The best touch up guy I ever met used a paper towel twisted up in one corner. That was his brush. It worked just fine. Don't need to spend money on a fancy brush for touch up paint.
