    If you have the factory tow package, then you have 6500# tow rate. Without I believe it's 3500# tow rate. I have the tow package and tow around 6000# with mine. Don't tow in 6th gear.

    My camper is 4000lbs dry. I don't want to say it does it with ease like some others, but it is more than capable. I have added the B&M supercooler and just received the scangauge you see in a lot of the threads. Trailer has the Equalizer 4 point sway and weight distribution bars. I'm looking forward to seeing trans temps tomorrow when I leave on a trip with the camper fully loaded. Trans currently reads around 140 degrees doing 75mph.

    I’m not certain of the weight but I’ve pulled a PT Cruiser on an 18’ trailer and it pulled fine. Balance your load and forget 6th gear lol

    I pulled a fully loaded 6x12 u haul trailer from Houston to Chicago. Had my tool box, jacks, and literally everything in that trailer... figured it had to be over 4K with the trailers weight

    A 6 speed doesn’t have a 6th gear, it has 5. Overdrive is not a gear, its a capability of a transmission.

    OP- if you don’t have the factory tow package you are a No Go to haul that trailer.

    Not talking about the legal side of it, but adding a proper receiver is the only difference between the 2 packages as far as load capability is concerned. The battery, alternator and coolers are a different story. My prerunner was not equipped with the tow package but I added the receiver, a trans cooler and wired the break controller. Only thing I am missing is the alternator, battery and engine oil cooler.

    Just a heads up, your 6spd manual wont have the need for a trans cooler. Those are a part of the tow package exclusively for the automatics. The tow package for your truck will include a higher output alternator, 27F battery, 7pin harness, and oil cooler.

    Thats false.
    There is a big difference in tow capacity between the two packages.
    How much weight a vehicle can handle is related to the vehicles ability to cool its fluids.

    6th gear on a V6 manual transmission is a overdrive - ratio is .85
    On a manual transmission it is an actual gear, just like gears 1 thru 5.

    @PackCon literally everything you contributed here is bullshit. Really.

    OP, if you have your manual look in there. If you don't have it an easy thing to verify is open the fuse box under the hood and check the alternator fuse. 140amp = towing package
    120amp = no towing package

    If you've got it your truck is prewired for a brake controller (which you'll need for that trailer weight).
    If not you can still add the equipment needed. Either read up in the towing bible someone posted above, do. it yourself and save money or bring it to a shop for a turnkey solution.
