    Personally, I'd recommend using a receiver shackle like Timichas.

    The loading on the pin is different with the strap attached at it's center, (more likely to bend) and the edges of the receiver can be a bit sharp (can cut into strap)

    That being said, if I had strap, pin, receiver, and nothing else, and needed to do a recovery, I'd set it up that way. But while you have time and leisure on your hands, why not add the extra bit of safety margin into your kit?

    Yes. Very little but possible. Slim chance.

    My only concern would be as BJMoose suggests, the receiver itself (slowly) cutting into the strap at angled pulls.

    That being said, a receiver mounted shackle is much more versatile but probably 10x the cost.

    True dat. But, for perspective, about the price of half a tank of gas.
