Do you know if the locking pin will fit our hitches? I was reading somewhere that the 3rd gen needs a longer pin or something?

Not sure. I have not used my hitch.. my bike just goes in the bed now instead of using the rack. You could always get a new pin though, pretty cheap too, you can also get a lock for the pin that you put your truck key in to and lock it, and it sets to that key. Forgot the name of it though

What's your intended use for the strap? Most standard "tow straps" that you find in stores are static straps, meaning they don't stretch. You take out all slack and gently pull with those. In most off road scenarios, this is useless.

The solution to that is a kinetic recovery strap/snatch strap, one that stretches. It's essentially a giant rubber band that stretches and allows you to get a running start to yank them out, all while remaining smooth. Here's one that I use and recommend.

    [IMG]$60 ARB ARB705 2-3/8" x 30' Recovery Strap - 17500 lbs Capacityhttps://www.amazon.com/ARB-ARB705-2...pID=51aCdObtztL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

Here's a short 26 second video demonstrating the difference between the two.

Bubba ropes are very well made. They stretch so they're in the same category as other dynamic ropes. I've never owned or used one because of the price difference between that and the orange ARB strap I linked

I bubba rope! I have two different ones and I use them alot.

I have their regular blue rope(https://www.bubbarope.com/jeeps-and-trucks/bubba-rope-20-foot) for my truck/tracked Ranger and snowmobile recovery and then I have their big bubba orange one for my dump truck and tractor (https://www.bubbarope.com/jeeps-and-trucks/big-bubba-20-foot).

Just this winter alone I've used them about 5 times, and plenty in the two years before. I really like them a lot and haven't had any issues with them. You leave a decent amount of slack and then just go. I 100% recommend them, I do know they are pricey though.

I would get their d-ring shackles made of the same material when you grab one if you go that route too(http://www.bubbarope.com/gator-jaws-synthetic-shackles). Also they have a product that covers the rope if you are using them on sharp edges, for the kenetic material, if you start seeing threads get torn or worn out, it can comprise the whole rope, so protecting them a little can save you from needing a new one early (https://www.bubbarope.com/life-guard). I don't own the protector accessories, but am going to buy (just did now) them because a few times I have used the ropes in a situation where I wish I had the rope guards (like around a tractor bucket).

That said, I never used a different brand like the ARB linked above and that could work just as well. I've never heard a bad thing about either company. I can say I pulled a guy out last week and he just mailed me a thank you card and $80 dollars cash after I refused money when I did it. That pays for half the bubba in one use! Obviously I can't guarantee people will pay you for helping them, but it's possible

Edit: @roguegs , I looked at that kit more, I think it will do the job and if you want a complete tow kit without spending a ton, it is a good kit. If you don't get stuck often and want it mostly "just in case" or to help your fellow man (I see your LEO badge) it should do the trick. If you are gonna go mudding in the clay or off road in some deep snow with any frequency, I'd go with a more kinetic style strap.

I just bought this kit for my 17 limited. Don't offroad really... just wanted for those "incase" situations. And well, I liked the way It looked In my hitch since I went with red accents on my white truck.

Sadly, the diameter of the pin on the d-shackle is too large to fit in the front of the Tacama.... so now i'm stuck with that.

Do note that those loops on the front aren't really made to pull anything. Believe they're only meant to be used as a tie-down point. The TRD-OR (and likely the Pro) do offer an actual recovery point on the front passenger side though.

i'm probably totally wrong here... but i though the loop was on the drivers side. i'm talking about this point on the passenger side.

Neither loop is really meant to be a recovery point for difficult situations (i.e. stuck as fuck off road) but for something easier such as getting pulled out of snow then it’s just fine.

If you want a proper bolt in recovery point, check this out. Replaces the passenger side loop.

Do you know the difference between this one and the one from SOS, other than $40

If you REALLY want something solid on the front, go with thisIMG_0531.jpgARB recovery point, rated at 17,500 lbs. Definitely more expensive than the other options, but your truck will rip in half before you break this thing.

I would rather my recovery point fail than my truck rip in 1/2.lol

That's still more of a tie down. Below is the factory hook on my Off-Road but as mentioned before, either may work in a pinch but none are hardcore off road worthy. Granted most of those doing that probably have plate bumpers with built-in recovery points.

I haven’t looked at the sos one recently but iirc the sos only uses two bolts, and it’s welded together as opppsed to one piece. There have been reports of the sos one failing
