I doubt it really matters which way you mount it, although if you look closely you can see the little hook on the rear I mentioned earlier. If mounted in the position you have pictured, the hook would be upside down preventing the tie down point from being used during a tow (ie flat bed trailer). As far as recovery is concerned, I doubt it would matter much.

Excellent, thanks. We have an exchange student coming in from France on Friday. After I get the yard mowed, I may drive down and look around.

Gotcha......just trying to get the best combo for the $. I would probably use it to tow as well as snatch. Next purchase is the 2 straps - tow and snatch/recovery. (My wife drove into a ditch last year on the day after Christmas......shopping of course. I HATE getting woken up at 5:00 am to pull a van out of a ditch because her buying hormones overcame her driving skill)

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.

i had this idea first...but they beat me to the punch. i never did mount the tow hook to the top of mine.

i made my own...the shackle is the expensive part.

If you already have a draw bar with ball in it...

    Remove the ball...

Buy $13 D-ring shackle and put it in the hole where the ball was.
