So I am 85% sure I'm waiting it out for a 2016 DCSB TRD SPORT. I had a regular cab 2005 2X2 a while back and liked it. But I still can't help but get pulled in the direction of the Chevy Colorado. I think the 2016 Tacomas will look better, the colorados seem disproportionate to me. But the two things I just don't know if the 2016 will be able to compete with are the towing Capcity of the Colorado or if the new Tacoma engine will be able to meet the 300hp the Colorado has. I would love some feed back from more experienced Tacoma people.

You want more torque for towing or hauling; I'd go with whichever truck makes the most torque lower in the RPM range.

I'd like to eventually Tow either a tent trailer or one of these mini trailers you see around.

If you are buying because you want to tow, you should wait for info on the 2016 Colorado Diesel.

Tacoma shouldn't have a problem with a pop up camper or mini trailer.

It really depends on what he's towing. No need a full size for a pop-up or mini.

Not towing anything big enough to really warrant a Diesel. If I did I would probably just bite the bullet and get a full size truck. But thank you.

I posted that before I knew he only wanted to tow a pop-up or a mini. Tacoma can have a tough time pulling something closer to it's max capacity (5k to 6,500).

Nope but I'm assuming since it's a diesel that it would have a better towing capacity than their gas motor.

Not if its still sitting on a midsize frame and midsize suspension.

True. I should say that a diesel with more torque would of course handle the (same) towing load better than a their gas engine.

It'll tow even better with an extra $3-4k removed from your wallet too.

You gotta pay to play. I would not have chosen a Tacoma if I had to tow a 6K load though I probably would not have chosen a Diesel Colorado either. I would have gone full size. Either way, wallet will be lighter.

Except you'd be paying more for the same shit.

Jacque said that the Tow Package was coming standard on all SR5 and above models. Does anyone know if this is true?

You can tow a heck of a big camper in the 3500lb range. If regularly towing or longer distances with 5500 or more close to capacity I would get a full size. Of course we have some long hills here in iowa.

It's already standard in Canada on the sr5.

In Canada they package the vehicles different. We have more standard features that are optional in the US like the towing package. If you get the Double Cab in The V6 double Cab or higher trim or the Access Cab V6 you get the towing package. Not sure about how the US. I think it is still a stand alone option.
