    That's MSRP. A local dealer has diesel Cruze's for under 21k. Even cheaper than gas models.

    You can get a well-specc'd VW Jetta with leather, manual transmission and derzul for around $23k, seen them as low as $20k. I rented a gas Jetta (with auto of course) for work and it is remarkably big for a compact care. Had the 5 cylinder motor in it but I loved it. Would totally get a Jetta as a diesel car.

    I'm no Cruze nut and might check out some actual long term reviews. One thing I did like when checking out a Cruze Diesel though. Country of origin, transmission, Japan. That's at least a plus there.
