That's the OE Toyota hitch I got new off Amazon from a Toyota dealer. $142 plus $23 shipping. Class 4, nice finish, bolts right on and comes with a nice Toyota hitch plug.
Couldn't get the Toyota wiring harness, dealer said it was discontinued and I couldn't find it online either. Went with a Curt wiring harness instead.

Question, new to Towing. I got a 2004 tacoma, plan on Towing a Jon boat at the max. What's the difference between having factory Towing Package, or just installing a hitch ? Sorry if it's a dumb question but new to all this.

To me there would be no real difference.

Having installed hundreds of hitches over the years

I think the trucks in your range only had a dealer installed "towing package" not a factory option

My Hidden Hitch (installed about 12 years ago) does not require removing the bumper. I assume that they are still the same.

depends on what class hitch toyota put on the trucks and what one you're looking for in the aftermarket world. i have a class 3. class 4 and 5 exist but i doubt our engines are strong enough to tow anything that would require a class 4 or 5.

I just ordered a draw tite for my tacoma off Amazon, I wouldnt spend that much on an oem hitch. No real difference, if you get the right class rating. I think we just need class 3 for our trucks

"Factory Towing Package" Includes a prewired harness to plug the trailer into, Larger factory transmission cooler if equipped with an Auto transmission. Sometimes you can select different transmission or axle ratios if towing a big camper, sometimes larger rear view mirrors are part of the package too. A rear view camera might be included with the "Towing Package" The towing tires may be different too.

"Just installing a hitch" might mean a small bumper mount with none of the other stuff above. If you only tow a #300 Lb trailer it might be fine. As we all know, Toyota Bumpers can rust and get weak. I'd rather spend the same money and get a Frame mounted hitch and have a safety margin.

How heavy is the Honda? Does the trailer you are using have brakes?

With the 2.7L you'll want to stick to the right lane on 95.

honestly, if it were me, I would not tow that with your truck. Especially that long of distance. a short trip is meh, but something that weighs more than half your truck is skeptical without trailer brakes to assist.

thats up to the road. as with all driving you need to make the best judgement call you can for your situation. if you're really worried about towing a vehicle like that, then don't use your tacoma because you don't trust it well enough to do what you need it to do.
