I plan to tow my wife's 2015 Honda Fit on a rented u-haul dolly coming up in the beginning of April. From Ocean Springs, MS to Seattle, WA, roughly 2,700 miles. All in all it will be her and I with our two dogs in the bed(camper shell) as well as whatever else we need to bring(moving company gets everything else). From what I've found her car weighs roughly 2,500 lbs then the weight of the dolly is another 750 pounds according to their site.

My truck has 33's, ome 887's, 5100's front and rear, and an aal. It has the factory tow package.

I'm looking for advice on this move. Whether it's a good idea or bad? If I need something, aftermarket trans cooler, different leaf pack for the weight, etc... Has anyone done anything similar and did you run into any problems?

    Thanks!

If it were me, I'd make sure the dolly has brakes - electric preferably. You might want to price out purchasing a dolly and then selling it once you get to WA. If you have a tow package, you should already have a transmission cooler. All you would need if you do get a dolly with electric brakes is a brake controller. Most UHaul trailers are surge brakes which work by activating when the trailer tongue pressure overcomes the spring tension in the brake system on the trailer. The last trailer I towed, it felt like the trailer was pushing the tow vehicle before the trailer brakes would activate and it would get a little squirrelly in downhill corners trying to push the back of the truck out. Weight wise, you're good.

It's $121 to rent a car dolly from u-haul for my trip, that's for nine days. Buying one seems less cost effective. Was there another reason why I should purchase one?

Also I guess I should've been more specific with the trans cooler. I know the truck has a trans cooler. I am wondering if adding a second one would be necessary or if the factory one will be sufficient?

    Thanks again!

Only reason is for electric brakes. I think the factory cooler should be sufficient. Now take this with a grain of salt as it's an Internet opinion...

You'll be fine. I towed 3.5k 1,000 miles and it was a u haul with surge brakes. Only thing that may be worth getting is a scan gauge or ultra gauge to monitor transmission temp (if you're an auto).

That's what you get with super cheapo uhaul surge brakes.... Good surge brake actuators don't do that.
