ive got dakar HD spring pack and I’ve hauled my bike around town a few times but makes me nervous for long trips. Can’t make up my mind, but seeing that sport bike back there made me think to ask.

Cool Scrambler. I have an Icon in the garage. I would've opted for the Desert Sled but alas, that 34" seat height makes it a no go for me.

I've looked at carriers like that and have seen a handful of people around the paddock use them. My main concern was having that weight concentrated so far back. I decided the bed was the best option since the weight would be closer to the axle.

Obviously, that's not an option for you due to your setup as well as your use case.

Does your trailer have a parachute? I tow my 2300lb boat around without the need of 4K rpm or that much gasoline.

I’ve also hauled a kdx200 in the bed, but obviously much lighter than yours.

Are you sure that putting it in the bed is going to be any easier? I’d use a trailer for a large bike or snowmobile.

Thx man, It was kinda tall for me at first but I’m getting used to it. Can’t flat foot haha only left foot mostly.

Yeah I don’t like all the weight so far back either. For around town or if I have to take it to the dealer for something no biggie but....

Have you consider a hitch bike tray. You might need to do some homework for max capacity but my Vespa only weight 300#. It beats towing around a trailer.

I just received my black widow motorcycle ramp from Amazon ,so I thought I would put my 853 pound road glide up on my 2020 trd sport long bed to see how much it would squat the truck, too my surprise not that much. I was going to get some sumo springs for the truck for when I do need to haul the bike in the back but may not need them.image2.jpg image1.jpg

It’s hard on the gas mileage but there seems to be plenty of room for motorcycles in the bed.

Being able to place a motorcycle in the back is the #1 purpose of my Tacoma. I've placed two super bikes, a generator and lots of other gear back there. Then I tied it all down forcing it into the bed and tailgate, without issue so far. Gas milage is far from stellar but thats pretty much the story of the tacoma, it seems.
A wheel chock in the front and a good tie down system that doesn't hurt the bike will help immensely. Biggest game changer over the years was getting carabiner ratchet straps, no more fumbling with the hooks, them slipping out all while trying to hold the bike (before I had a chalk)

I've taken my Harley back and forth from Fresno to San Diego plenty of times. It's definitely possible!

Yeah I was a little nervous myself as it was my first time doing it with this combination of truck bike and ramp but with the black widow ramp it was a piece of cake, I rode it up nice and slow and it didn't spin the rear wheel at all and it backed off just as easy. The black widow ramps(part# mf-12038) are a little pricy but they are stout and worth the doe for stress free loading.

I feel the same way! An old riding buddy of mine always said it's only ok to trailer motorcycles if you have at least one more motorcycle than people in the truck. One time I listened to a another friend and we trailered our bikes to his mountain house (about 200 miles way) to ride for the weekend and I felt like I was cheating on my bike going there and coming home.

I understand everyone has different circumstances around traveling with a motorcycle, but for me at this time, I'll ride it with very few exceptions.

OP, i noticed you said you already rented a trailer and didnt want to buy one as they were too expensive. How about buying one and then just reselling it when you are done with it? By the way, I have the same hitch mounted rack as in post 30. Its rated for 600 lbs, and its a really nice rack. But my Honda 450X I just sold, prob weighed around 280 with battery, full of fluids etc, and I would strap 2 5 gal cans on the rack also, and there is no way I'd put 600 lbs on that rack. I guess I had my rack with around 380 on it, wouldnt go any higher. Just need to sell my rack now since the bike is gone.

You know, I have been looking at that little KTM 390 Adventure. I wouldn't be against putting that in the back of the Tacoma to go on a cross country type trip. Some highway, 4x4, and adventure riding type of stuff.
