I'm driving from Delaware to Texas in a couple of months and thinking about putting my street bob in the bed. It's about 670 pounds and my Tacoma is all stock. If I decide to do this I will be picking up a trailer once I get there and bringing it back on that. Is this possible or am I crazy

Uh i dont think you're crazy at all. people haul 2, even 3, dirt bikes in the bed which would weigh more than your harley and there are no issues. The only crazy part is loading and unloading, i would be sweating bullets doing that..... OOHH maybe put an extra board for support on the tailgate so you dont break through that when loading

Payload is like 1300 lbs or something like that on tacos.

assume you have a 6ft bed?

I've got a 5ft bed and a fat boy and that sucker would never fit in the bed haha I had to get a trailer! Plus a trailer with a drop down gate makes loading and unloading a breeze and if you put a wheel choke on the trailer it's even easier.

I would think that you would be fine in terms of weight capacity. I had around 1200lbs of bricks in the back of mine yesterday and it was only kissing the bump stops on....well....bumps.
I'd be more worried about tie-down points. If you haven't done the front D-ring mod I'd recommend it. Those moveable tiedowns aren't rated for a lot of weight. :notsure:

Ya that seems a little sad that your truck couldnt handle 750 lbs... I hauled just over half of a pallet of sod that weighed more than 750 and it was fine. She sagged in the back of course and i took it a little slower than usual but it was fine. I also do have an aftermarket leaf pack but still.

If our trucks cant handle a motorcycle in the bed somethings wrong..... IMO

    Weird.
My '10 is stock as well. I had around 300 bricks in it yesterday (at an average of probably 3-5 lbs per brick) and I still had probably an inch between the springs and the bump stops. They touched when I actually hit a bump, but the ride wasn't bad.

Her ass was sagging, but it wasn't dragging.
But, I do wish that I had the new recall springs. The knowledge that they've had problems with leaves snapping does not put me at ease when I load her up.

Edit- It is annoying, though. The white Dodge in the background is an '84 and it's got 5 leaves in the back (4 standard leaves + 1 overload). I can put twice as much weight in the bed before it sags anywhere close to as much as my Toyota is in that picture. The Toyota definitely rides smoother, but I do wish they could carry more weight without looking like a goose that swallowed a barbell.

I got nothing to add except typical Harley guy, trailering his bike around instead of riding! :boink:

How do you plan to load and unload it? Big hill or something? It would be my greatest fear (and thus would probably make it happen) that i would drop my bike while trying to load it ha. I got an 07 victory vegas 8ball

Your rear tire will be on the tailgate. Cut a piece of 3/4"plywood to fit front to back, wheelwell to wheelwell... and over the tailgate.

... If you don't you'll definitely have a curved/bent tailgate. It happened to a member here a while ago. It was a new truck and the dealer said it would take it no problem.... the dealer gave him a new tailgate.

    No mods whatsoever!
That's what I use as well. Just posted this in a recent thread. Then on your return trip, lift the rear of the plywood and close the tailgate and you'll be aerodynamic. You may even get better gas mileage. Maybe...

did i read correctly that you are going to haul the bike down there and then get a trailer? why not just get a trailer now? i got mine for $500 brand new and have taken it up and down the east coast, done several moves, and now i use it to buy bikes. worth every penny

    Stock
I haul a 2013 Honda Rancher 4x4 in my truck all the time. It's 549lbs stock. I have a winch, skid plates, and bigger tires on it. Plus the ramps, and a 5 gallon can of gas. I didn't notice any problems. Truck felt the same as it does empty.

I would of been very disappointed if my truck wouldn't of handled a 4 wheeler in the bed stock.

I'd say you'd be fine, load it up and see what it looks like.

Speaking of full loads... I saw this the other day... I don't think it'll ever ride the same again, LOL.

I did similar things with my '99 when I had it (usually a yard of wet manure) and it never bothered it. I had an AAl in the rear, but the leaves always sprang back once the load was off of them. They never looked 'kinked' like the leaves in my 2nd Gen do when under a load, either.
On the other hand, when it was freighted down you'd step on the gas and the truck would just say 'Huh? Oh....right..... Give me a minute'

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh someone has jokes! Ha. I ride every day! I would ride it to Texas but I only have 2 weeks off of work. Plus I'm taking a crap load of Yuengling with me, you can't get that in Texas, my friends go nuts every time I take some

Friend of mine has some ramps. I've loaded and unloaded a sportster a couple of times and it's pretty sketchy

why not just rent a trailer for a one way trip from Uhaul or something?

i have Dakars so i cant help ya with your original question but i think 630lbs shouldnt be an issue. only issue would be pushing that heffer up the ramp to load it i think.
