Towing with a Base Model Tacoma

I found a parts truck for my Blazer, is my Tacoma able to pull another vehicle with a 4.3L engine on one of the smaller U-Haul flatbeds? As of now the suspension is all stock, haven't touched any of it yet, engine is the same thing as well.

 

Without the tow package or an after-market class III/IV hitch you can put a ball in the rear bumper that's rated for 3500 lb tow (350 lb tongue).

Sounds like you'll be using a 4-wheel trailer, so the tongue weight shouldn't be a problem, but you'll have to do the math on the weight of what you're towing to know if 3500 lb capacity will get you there. Otherwise, U-haul can usually do a reciever install (no idea if their pricing and/or quality are competititve) which should give you a capacity of 5000 or 6500 lb depending on what class you go with.

I wouldn't worry too much about the suspension with a 4-wheel trailer, but make sure you allow plenty of extra braking distance when towing.

I was worried since it's a 2.7L but one of my friends (he has a 2001 taco) says that it can haul, but nothing bit I think. Yeah I have to use a 4 wheel trailer, the tires are all blown from dry rot, some of the suspension is missing, this thing has been in the sun for QUITE some time lol.

 

U-haul won't rent to you. Base isn't rated for in with the combined flat-bed with truck... At least they wouldnt rent to me ( trd sport with tow package) towing a 88 4runner with no engine or tranny lol

 

WTF?! Damn, well my little cousin has a Pre-Runner with that on it. I'm just gonna have to borrow his for a day.
