But then you'd be driving a full sized Ford...no thanks

and that is why, when I was in the market for a taco I had to get one with a supercharger and do not regret it for a second!

But then you have to pay to repair the furd POS. My work van is a 2011 ford. It just went over 40k miles and the whole front end is shot. Tie rods, ball joints, and something in the steering. When I start the motor in the morning it clanks and knocks like a motor with 300k mikes. Absolute piece of trash. My Tacoma has almost 70k miles and drives like the day I drove it off the lot.

But then you are stuck with a Ford. Smart choice would be to upgrade to a GM brand or settle for a Tundra.

I was just throwing fuel in the fire , but you know what I mean . I personally wouldn't buy a ford but you probably could buy a tundra for cheaper than what a super charger costs . Plus having to use premium fuel all the time runs the price up more

Got it, but you threw a lot of fuel on the fire suggesting a Ford :) :drunk:

I tow up mountain passes frequently with a good size pop up loaded with canoes or kayaks. What did you upgrade the cooler with? I've hit 220* plus with mid 70s ambient temp.

I used a B&M stacked plate cooler. Plumbed in place of the factory cooler (which made it easy to install) and was bigger and more efficient than the factory tube and fin cooler. I seem to recall there were three size options on the smaller end (small/shallow, small/thick, medium/shallow). I went for the middle option. Doing it again I might go with either of the shallow coolers (.75 inch versus 1.5) as I'm wanting to relocate the cooler to make room for a light bar behind the grill and the thick cooler is limiting my options.

    Good luck!

I had a GTR behind mine a few times and it was fine (Tranny temp, brakes, acceleration, etc.) If i planned to do more of that kind of towing though I would get a used F150, gas milage is already poor with lift and towing just made me wish I had a full size. but occasional towing, no issues.IMG_1268.jpg

I'm not sure I understand. How is your gas mileage lower with your lift? Assuming same tire size, engine, and gearing, raising the truck 2-3 inches shouldn't affect gas mileage.

I just traded my 2008 Tacoma 4x4 DC 4.0 for a new 4Runner TRD Off Road. I bought the 4Runner over the new Taco because it retained the 4.0 I've been towing my 3000lb camper in 4th and OD. I use a ScanGauge2 to monitor my transmission temps, try to keep it in OD at 70 Mph. Last month I did a 1000 mile trip averaging 15.8 mpg through the moderate hills of Northern Ontario.

You can tow in OD, but you MUST watch your transmission temps.

Never fails, every time I go camping up north, I always see at least 1 F150 with the hood up on the highway.

I'm really interested in that new F150 Diesel, can't do Dodge.

A supercharger is a lot of $ for a better towing experience when OP is only towing 2800 lbs.

Spend the $200 on a ScanGauge2, really upped the towing game.

Greetings fellow Londoner! I just sold my 97 4Runner Limited. It was mint with 380,000 km. Got $4000 for it. That 5VZ was a working motor for sure.
