Well then hell there goes that idea. I was thinking maybe you fellas were using wax with polish in it or something.

I'd go to a bodyshop and ask how much. Maybe they could just scuff it up and put clear on it. If they have to repaint it then put clear on it might be a bit much since you guys are red and red paint is expeeeeensive.

ok... looking at Nu Finishes website they are saying it's a polish and not a wax and if OP is using Mequires Cleaner wax that too has polishing agents. SO you might try using a couple coats of just wax (one without polishing stuff) to see if that helps.

If you haven't talked to an autobody shop yet, here's what mine said.

"He probably has rubbed off his clear coat. If he wants it shiny again, he will have to have it repainted."

Can he just have the clear coat done? or does it need a color coat too?

"Maybe. He would have to have someone look at it to be sure."

And you have started to rub off the color coat as well. They recommend waxing only occasionally. The clear coat is extremely thin. Any thing that says "Polish" is an abrasive.

I paint for a living and here is the deal alot of vehicles in solid colors are single stage meaning no clear coat usually black cars and mostly on plastic stuff however I have run into it on entire cars like mercs all your plastic stuff bumper handles flares were painted in a different plant all together that's why color match is usually off you would be able to see a ring around a particular spot where you burned through the clear if that were the case buy like some of the guys said on here already there is no clear coat to begin with so don't sweat it uless you are starting to see black or grey through it and as far as having your bumpers painted just to have clear put on them I dont think I would go that route just simply because bumpers that have been painted usually don't hold up as well as factory paint more film build means weaker surface so rock chips and what not will look worse unless you have money to burn then screw it and paint the stuff but if you ask me you would have to be using some serious wax to burn through any paint especially if you are doing it by hand

You can get clear coat in a rattle can (sans rattle) at the local auto parts store. It will server your purpose.

Don't, it'll look like ass. Just keep your bumper clean and wax only when it needs it.
