Haven't had it in a major rainstorm yet but it has stayed dry in the rain it has been in. I did have to fill two spots with silicone but easy enough to do.

I really like it and just helped a buddy put one on his Tacoma.

They aren't cheap though but the sturdiness is top notch and canister is small.

    None.
Thanks for the link. They are pricey. But I paid 850 for mine and it's sliding around a bit. I also got the 1Up hitch mount for my mountain bike. I'm starting to like your setup a lot because the bikes are above the bed and you can still use the bed. I'm also starting to think about a larger spare tire for when I do a lift and new wheels. (Someone already stole my spare tire and I got the truck only a few weeks ago.) I liked this idea because I can grab my work stuff out of the truck without touching the bike by lifting the lid. Here is a pic of my setup I snagged from the drone last weekend.

Any down sides to your set up?

Were you driving while flying the drone? Cool pic!

F'in hate thieves! That's BS that they stole your spare from under your truck! The Yakima tire mount is locked with a pad lock you supply.

If there are any down sides I haven't found them yet. One thing that I really like is how easy it is to take the whole thing off. Takes 10-15 min (haven't actually timed myself). With two people and space to set it down two people could lift it right off. But by myself I'll take off the tire, hi-lift, and bike mounts and I can lift the rest off solo and stand it up in the garage. I've done it a few times now for Home Depot runs.

toynado thanks for the help, my dealer is telling me to expect vibration from the lift. Did you experience or gain any vibrations? also said around $900 to install, seems high.

I have heard that some people get vibration but I haven't felt any. $900 sounds high. I paid $700 for mine. I would have hit up some local TW members to see if they'd help do it, but was in a hurry to have it done the day after I got my truck.

Any more info on the bed lights? Live those, I have the OEM tonneau cover and would like something like this. Ease of install? How do they get power? I'm not electrically minds so if it involves cutting/splicing I'm gonna need a local TW fiend to help.

@mattgecko does a great job with his instructions. There are good pictures and such. You'll just need a drill, a pair of wire cutters/crimpers, a couple sockets & wrenches and electrical tape. If you go slow it is a simple instal. It wires directly to the battery. That is the longest part of the install: zip tieing the power wire along the bottom of the truck (pics show you exactly where)

I really like them. Went camping last weekend arriving at the campsite after dark and the lights lit up the bed and made it so easy to find the tent, sleeping bags & pads, etc.

Installed Gladman Performance Fabrication recovery point that'll accept a 3/4" standard shackle.

Plastidipped it red for kicks and since it'll just be temporary until I can decide on a hybrid or full front bumper and which manufacturer of said bumper... And then come up with the funds to pay for it, whoever I pass this along to can keep it red or peel it off to its original powder coated black.

HAHA! I'll take any credit and deny any wrongdoing

I hear you, while waiting on the truck I had boxes stashed under the bed, in a closet and stacked in the garage. Luckily I'm not married but been with the same girlfriend for close to eight years so I still have some answering to do. Even now when boxes arrive I get the "Another thing for the truck??". No kids and don't want any so I can spoil myself is the way I look at it. I'm still trying to think of a diplomatic way of explaining new bumpers when the time comes.

Nice build. Color is great! I'm starting a virtual build of the tacoma I don't have yet. I was wondering about a few things that maybe you'd be able to help me with.

    1. were you able to get the truckcovers tonneau shipped directly to you? Maybe i'm challenged, but i can't seem to find an option to order it from their website.

    2. The yakima tracks... are they installed on the bedside tops or the actual tonneau track?

    3. With your setup, do you think it's strong enough to support a RTT? I've been trying to find a way to have a rack that supports a RTT while having a tonneau cover (hard style) underneath. Ideally, i'd like a bedrack like kbvoodoo's or allpro's and have a solid tonneau.

Thanks! I'm really happy I decided on the quicksand. I ordered it without seeing one in person so I was a little worried until it came in.

Yes I got them shipped direct but a buddy of mine found them with free shipping from autoanything.com I think it was. Check the web for the best deal.

The tracks came installed from the factory on the tonneau cover.

I'm not sure how much weight it could hold. I think I read somewhere that the cover itself could hold 500 lbs spread out so maybe. The way mine is setup I was thinking that a local fabricator could make brace for each bar on each side that would go next to the Yakima mount so that some weight would be distributed to the top of the truck bed and not all be directed to the tonneau.

Or it may be possible to get Allpro or kbvoodoo do a custom mount that would attach to the Yakima tracks on top vs. the truck bed rails. I don't think it would be much of a change to their design.

Or now that you got me thinking about it you could probably take one of their existing towers and cut off the part that hangs down into the bed with an angle grinder and then drill a couple holes in the bottom plate and create a mount like people do for the Tacoma rails (I've seen pics here on TW) Then have someone weld a small block of aluminum on the outer edge the same height as the Yakima track so that the weight of the tower is resting equal on the block (on the truck bed) and on the Yakima track. Kind of wish I had one of their towers to play with because I think this could work fairly easy.

Am I making sense? I can draw up a pic if you want.

I can draw up a pic if you want.

what are the yakima tracks made of? plastic? metal? i'm wondering if kbvoodoo's side rail caps are secure enough to weld the tracks to the outermost edge and therefore be able to utilize a truckcovers tonneau. By the looks of the pictures, it doesn't look like the truckcovers tonneau rests on much of the bed rails at all.

i think i'll have to look for what you were talking about re: a mount for the tacoma rails. It kinda sucks that i don't have a truck to figure this out yet.

The tracks are metal. Not sure if aluminum or steel. I'll check this weekend when I get back home or give Yakima a call. You might be onto something if aluminum (guessing kbvoodoo's using aluminum) and welding on to the Yakima tracks.

I'll also take a pic to show how much they rest on the truck bed.

I was in the same boat before my truck arrived trying to what if everything without knowing what would work so glad to help
