"Certified" vehicles are usually just washed/vacuumed and cleaned up nice. It's all about aesthetics. Clean/shiny vehicles sell faster. The average car buyer is clueless. After all that's done, someone takes the clipboard the certification sheet it attached to and runs down the list of things that were examined - placing a check mark next to each box. Takes less than a min. "Certified" vehicles have inflated sales tags attached to the window. Bigger profit for the dealer - nothing more.
As mentioned above - dealers like low-mileage/clean vehicles. They're less likely to be in need of warranty work later.
If I had a dollar for every "certified" car just purchased by friends/coworkers that I've found to have black oil/transmission fluid/power steering fluid/brake fluid/dirty air filter/etc/etc - I could eat a triple meat bacon cheeseburger with extra large fries from my favorite heart-attack greasy spoon every day for a week.

I bought a certified Tacoma put a lift on it and traded it for a stock truck that they swapped my lift over on and the new truck is still certified with the lift they swapped for me. Tongue twister...…...

I bought my truck last year with the coilover/AAL lift on it and 285/75/16 tires that was certified. They had replaced the battery, brakes, new cat pipe, filters. When I got the truck, the cv boot was torn so I took it to the dealer and it was replaced at no cost because of the 1 year certified warranty. While I was waiting for them to do the work, I read through all the certified paperwork and of course it says it doesn't cover anything due to alterations or non stock components so I guess it's up to the dealer on how they want to handle it.

I have no clue how to respond to anything on here. But Im having axle issues and they just keep swapping them out. I have 70k on the truck and bough it with 48k. The dealership swapped my lift for me and have since covered every issue. Lift related or not. I had the axle changed out at 59k and at 70k again.
