    I have a Gashole
I have a 2017 MGM that had been garage kept until the last week of February 2022 when I took delivery of a new Tesla. My paint has always been pristine and the truck is washed every 1-2 weeks. Come the fall I started to notice my clear coat was fading slightly......after 9 months it was destroyed....9 months in the sun. This is my second Taco, first was a 2010 2nd Gen that lived in the garage until traded in and paint was pristine also. I was hoping to trade in my truck for a Tundra, but I have just lost thousands of dollars in value due to poor manufacturing.

In 2020 Toyota issued a TSB and admitted problems with both the Super White and Metallic Blue trucks produced in 2017.
After doing some online searching, I have come to the realization that the problem in not a color problem but a clear coat problem across the board that seems to affect 3rd Gens fairly early on in their lives, leaving the clear looking like that of a 10 yr old vehicle that was left in the sun and never cared for.

Looking at the distribution of the clear damage as noted in the TSB for the Blue Metallic vehicles, it seems to follow the same pattern as other colors affected.
The TSB can be seen here:

There are multiple threads here on Tacoma world that have complaints about the clear coat.
This being one in which the OP @2000prerunner23 and @SFGiantsfn were able to push corporate into accepting responsibility based on insufficient paint/clear coat thicknesses. Based on this thread it appears the paint is supposed to have a 60mo/unlimited mile warranty, and unless that has changed, Toyota will try to deny it as it written primarily for corrosion (if this is not corrosion, what is?)

Below is the only picture I have of my trucks roof immediately before the damage. Ironically taken on the day of delivery of the Tesla. Not great but the only one I have along with pictures taken in November when I started to notice the problem spreading to the hood, front of the roof and doors below the windows.

I am not here looking for debates on car care or environment I live in (My neighbor has a 2018 Silver Taco that has lived outdoors its entire life and the paint is fine)
What I am looking for is numbers
I would like to know who else in the Tacoma community has had issues with their clear coat (and perhaps has accepted it as nothing to be done) and maybe, just maybe, force Toyota Corporate to accepting that this is a quality control issue across the board for 3rd Gens and it needs to be addressed.

Hummmm how coincidental. In addition to you also being a victim of shitty Toyota “quality”, you also took delivery of a Tesla, as did I.
M3P with FSD beta . over a yr now .

Just keep pressuring Toyota corp to fix the paint. It took over 6 months + many calls to the dealer and corp before they admitted fault. They actually admitted fault, and said, a certain number of customers had come forth, triggering the repair in their words. I don’t know the exact number of customers. They also kept the hood as a sample and sent it to Corp. all this was spring 2021 fyi.

Wow that’s bad. Are you using the same car wash routine every time also ?

it’s weird some cars really deteriorate into oblivion paint wise. Others with 20 bird shits a week stay completely fine

Nice. Also got an M3P. Didn't go for the FSD. Such a fun car to drive.
Thanks for the tip. They are submitting my claim this week.

Yes car has been washed the same since I have it. Only difference is it is now outside 24/7 where it was in the garage on days I didn't go out.
My next door neighbor has a Taco in silver. Has been outside since he got it. Its a 2018 I believe. Paint is pristine. I took pictures of it for comparison.

I have a white 2017 trd sport and the paint has been flaking off to bare metal since 40k miles. I have called the dealer and corporate many times but they say there’s nothing they can do, as warranty is up. I don’t understand why they know they have issues with super white paint and offered to paint several models with that paint code but not tacomas.

I was under the impression that there was also a recall on the white paint along with the blue. The white was known for peeling/flaking and the blue for the issue I am having with the MGM.
