I'm beginning to think the insurance companies have started the rumor about filing claims for instances where you aren't at fault raising your rates. That way people are afraid to use the services they have already paid for, thus saving the insurance companies a fortune.

Rule of thumb, don’t take your truck to the dealer for an oil change. As you have now learned, people that work at dealerships are usually fucking morons

Nah, you'd just have to get a real one where keeping the customer happy is the primary goal. To some degree dealers have a built in customer base. Private shops have to earn repeat customers.

All depends on the dealer. When we were family owned it was much better than with a massive dealer group like now.

independent shops around here pay nothing compared to what I make at the dealer (which is still mediocre compared to union shops)

Police report on private property is different from a commercial business if the entity that owns the property is at cause. That's why you make a report over the phone like I did where the police don't even need to come out but highly important that you take photos so gps/time/ location match to the occurrence. The dealer was almost upset I didn't make it off their property but if I did I could have gotten seriously hurt in traffic. Honestly I blew up at them because I had my wife drop me off and was deciding if I wanted my two toddlers in the back to take home. That would have warranted some serious issues for the dealer. I was pissed enough as is. They found the lug nuts in the mechanics drawer. This supposed mechanic that was working there for years of making a really bad mistake....I leave my lugs by the wheel if I take them off.

Me Too!! On the flip side, with the 5-pages of comments maybe it's best we keep the loyal customers in the driveway.
And see, they took care of it. As we all knew they would.

As they were "obligated" to do. While they may have smiled in your face, behind the door they were cussing.

not a rumor my friend, fact if you are involved in an accident that’s not your fault your rates could increase at their discretion, depends on the company and your driving record. My wife worked her career at Met Life, and people think they are just life insurance, they also do auto and home. It’s best not to report small accidents rather than make a claim or involve them in any way. They make notes and record conversations every time you call them. Yes it’s a racket and yes it’s their game they make the rules. I don’t like it either.

Insurance Companies are like Banks. They are in the business to make money.

I'm reasonably sure the pay-out on claims is significantly smaller than the premiums collected.

Even so, they assess the risk of covering you, then assign correlated premiums.

Yes, frequent small claims will place you into a higher risk grouping and increase your premiums.

Nothing new. Its been this way for many many many years.

I doubt if that rumor was started by an Insurance Company, more likely a disgruntled policy holder with a social media account.

That will vary from state to state. In AZ it's illegal for a Insurance company to raise your rates for a accident that wasn't your fault. I just went thru this. It doesn't mean that they won't try to raise your rate. One needs to remember that the law can be used as both a sword and a shield.
