Actually, this made my life sort of a nightmare. Due to the way the accident unfolded it looked like it was my fault, since I t-boned him, but luckily the guy who was willing to be a witness said he saw the guy run the light...however apparently insurance needed two independent alibis to prove it. Since it happened at an intersection I asked all the stores there if they had any CCTV pointed at the street but none of them had the right angle as the CCTV is more positioned to face their shops/entrances/etc not the 4 way intersection lol. I actually had to go back to the intersection and make a video showing how the lights change so you can see how the guy ran the red and how I subsequently ended up running into him. Insurance also sent an adjuster out to look at the vehicles but I doubt they 'determined' anything from that. The impact to my truck was minimal compared to his though.

I guess on the bright side I was in between jobs at the time so I had time to deal with this BS...my truck got hit twice within the first 3 months I had it...neither was my fault and both was a hassle to prove. Almost immediately after this accident I got another job though that I did need my truck for and that was a whole other thing getting insurance to give me a truck they kept trying to give me a sedan even though I needed a truck for work. The first time some moron in a brand new $250,000 Mercedes backed into me and initially admitted fault but when insurance claims came through he said it was 100% my fault. Luckily the store's parking lot where it happened was able to give me CCTV footage to send to insurance since I had the exact time and date for them so they didn't have to spend time sifting through their footage. They really didn't want to but I was able to convince them in the end, whew lol.

    Here's some pics.

To answer your question, all they did was make sure we exchanged info and even then they didn't help me out that much as his insurance didn't match his drivers license I asked the officer what to do and he told me to ask insurance :/ But I guess I'm not sure what he could have done for me there anyway, a report would have helped me when talking to my own insurance for that exact reason though. In the end I got it sorted though, and now I have a dashcam and I hope this never happens again.

Very fortunate. I was backed into in a parking lot here and the police seemed to have an attitude..told me "oh this isn't our job". I looked right at him and said "first, the other driver wouldn't speak to me so I'm not just letting him drive off. Second, I've always been taught to always get an officer to the scene so there's no changing stories. Third, when he won't speak to me or give me his information, that IS your job to get it for me".

Frustrating to have that and then the store wouldn't release the copy of the CCTV even directly to my insurance to back up that it wasn't my fault; fortunately, the driver's front fender and bumper getting pushed towards the middle of my truck took care of that but what a clusterfuck
