I just bought a 2022 Tacoma TRD Sport Double Cab Long Bed. The dealership put on the TRD lift kit which includes the TRD tuned Billsteins; they also put on 33" Wildpeaks. I went in for an alignment, and they did it, however, something was wrong... there was a metal-to-metal sound coming from the front end when the shock is dampened. I went to another dealership to inspect, and they let me know that the TRD lift kit fits all trims EXCEPT the double cab long bed & the TRD Pro, therefore wouldn't touch it.

The dealership offered to remove the additions and return the vehicle to stock, mind you, I paid $9,000 for the package. I let them know that I want the suspension to be replaced with one that is made for the truck as well as 4 new tires (the current ones are feathering terribly after only 7k miles) to maintain the lift/level.

Is this a reasonable request? I feel like they could be liable for a lot more for what can be considered misrepresentation or breach of implied contract. Would love to hear some thoughts...

I think it’s very reasonable to ask them to do the work that you originally paid them to do. Will they honor that? Probably not but hopefully I’m wrong.

I just caught my dealership in a lie about the service they claim they did on my truck at 10K miles. I figured I would take my truck to them until my 2 free years of service were over, then go to somewhere I could trust more.

Really hoped I would get through it without them messing something up. Long story short I found out they didn’t rotate my tires at 10K (and they said they did, even put it on the paperwork). I wouldn’t trust dealerships to do even small jobs right at this point.

I'm hoping they do. One issue I might face is there are no OEM lift kits for the Tacoma aside from this one. In order for them to do an equivalent lift, it would have to be with an aftermarket brand like Fox, or Billstein (which is what are on there now)

That suspension is perfectly fine for the truck even though Toyota says it isn't. It's a relabeled Bilstein setup that has been installed on countless DCLB trucks over the last 17 years. Try to see what the original dealership says but don't expect them to remove the suspension and give you something else. You received the product you paid for and they should be able to easily fix whatever is causing that noise, likely an installation problem. As for the tires, they are wear items and I wouldn't expect the dealership to do anything about it.

The factory lift kit works for longbeds as well and would even work on a PRO but would be a downgrade. Its basically rebranded 5100's with a block, which plenty of guys have ran since the 2nd gens and with longbed configs, myself included. The 2nd dealer just being dumb and lazy telling you its an incompatible lift and most likely the first dealer installed something wrong and the issue causing the metal sound. And hate to be that dude, but you basically threw away $8k on that lift, that setup non TRD branded can be had for $600 and probably another $400 or so in labor.

Out of curiosity do you have pictures of the damage you can post?
I agree that sales and service both fucked up by selling you and installing a lift kit that Toyota says does not go on your vehicle, regardless of if other people have installed it themselves.
The dealer who sold the truck should return it to stock on they're dime and give you a refund on the lift and tires, I dont know if they would install a aftermarket lift kit that has similar amount of lift, it could cause warranty issues down the road.
The second dealer doesnt want to touch it since under warranty Toyota Corp wouldn't pay for a issue caused by a part they say is not compatible with your vehicle.

If I were you, I’d attempt get that 9 grand back and have them take everything off and return to stock. Then I’d go get some kings/fox Deavers and camburg ucas along with rims/tires and pocket the remaining 3 grand.

I'm betting that they left off the lower washer on the coilover top hats.

Also, $9k for a 5100 lift? You could have gotten king coilovers, UCA, rear shock relocation with 2.5x12" kings and deaver lift springs.

Please show us photos of your wheel wells and suspension.

The kit can fit any Tacoma that has 6 lug nuts on it's wheels from 2005 to 2022.

What I would suggest is getting the $9k refunded and getting a shop that knows what they're doing to install the $1.2k TRD lift kit

For 9 grand, you're allowed to be as irate and demanding as you want to be.

However I agree with trying to use this event to get refunded. Looks like the universe is calling to correct that colossal hose job. I'd let it.

Not everyone has the time, tools, space or ability to do such things as a lift. As for the price? Sure, that's a lot. But it's obviously something that fit in his budget. Beating him up after the fact doesn't seem like the thing to do.
